Excellent quality grains
I followed the simple instructions, and my grains are happily producing tiny bubbles and multiplying. I regularly brew kombucha and ginger beer (from homemade ginger bug) and this water kefir is an easier and quicker method to a lovely fermented beverage. I read a lot of reviews and considered a number of brands before ordering these water kefir grains from Fermentaholics, and I'm so glad I chose these!

Good choice for kefir
These grains were alive and well! Speedy, and great packaging, great value. It was my first time with water kefir and the instructions were clear and easy. We have been enjoying the kefir drinks!

Wonderful Grains!
Probiotics can be tricky for me. Wherever I get them from doesn't always agree with my body but these worked so well! They doubled in volume during my refresher brew and every brew after has worked for me! The instruction were clear, everything was well packaged (and beautiful! I'm keeping the bag they came in because it's so pretty!) and it makes me feel so very secure to know I can order more if need be. Having to get probiotics from somebody who knows somebody and you have no idea how sanitary the source is, I absolutely love this company for making high quality kefir grains available to me!

Happy Coconut Kefir Water Batches
The grains arrived brownish, and smelled a lot like fresh sauerkraut, which made since because sauerkraut is probiotic rich.At first I made a few mistakes. I used filtered water rather than spring and I didn't have black strap molasses, something they are used to. But I split the batch of grains into three separate ones, assuming I'd make some mistakes, because I wanted to give them the best chance at survival. I did different things with each batch to see which ones seemed to like what. I used date syrup as a substitute at first because I couldn't find Molasses at the local stores.Egg shells seemed to make one batch look healthier and happier, if that's possible. Definitely once I had black strap Molasses and spring water in hand, they were all doing a little better. Every now and then, if I eat an organic egg, I wash off the shell and place it in one of my batches on their first ferment for extra nutrients (for one day).I followed the directions, for the most part, but on my second batch, I was supposed to throw the water out after fermentation because the grains are still reviving and are not ready to use. I didn't throw it out however because it smelled just right to me. Instead, I added a little date syrup to the fermented sugar water and moved it onto second fermentation just to see what happened. The result was tasty kefir water! Now that it's warmer, I've developed a routine and a new method. I still keep three separate batches just in case I ruin one. I use sugar water and a teaspoon of molasses when I thing they need reviving. But for the most part, my routine is as follows:-coconut water (boxed) for first ferment. I place the three fermenting jars in the uppermost cabinet where it's the warmest. After one day of fermenting, (in a glass jar with a coffee filter on top and the outer part of a metal lid) I drain the liquid and add it to a glass bottle. It tastes a bit tart at this point. I do this with each jar and pour all the liquid into one large bottle because all of the grains seem to be doing fine. In the large bottle with all three batches of the liquid mixed, I add more coconut water. I use a glass milk jar and put an extra rubber band around the lid to keep it on. Otherwise, it pops off in the middle of the night. I "burp" the bottle the next day and do a taste test. Usually it's perfect just as is and so I place that bottle in the fridge. The result is a fizzy, light, coconut kefir water beverage. I've learned that adding more sugar, like the date syrup for instance, and fermenting it longer makes it taste more like a champagne beer... delicious if that's what you're going for. I use a large glass measuring cup and a silicone strainer I bought at the store when separating the grains in the first ferments.I have tried using a real coconut but I didn't notice enough of a difference to feel it was worth it. I've tried using pieces of a fresh coconut and it made my grains a bit coated. My new simple method seems to be working for me, for now. Good luck on your adventure!

Good Quality Kefir Grains
I initially bought water kefir from another company. The kefir did not grow and the second fermentation did not carbonate. Could have been because it was shipped in hot weather or just bad grains. I had doubts about this company's grain because of my bad experience but I decided to give it a try. Glad I did! The kefir grains from this company is growing and the second fermentation always yield a sparkling, carbonated beverage. I use spring water, a pinch of baking soda and coconut sugar for the first fermentation. I use swing cap bottles for the second fermentation and I think it helps the carbonation process even further. Happy with my purchase!

These grains are awesome!
This is my first time ever doing kefir. My mom makes milk kefir and I wanted to try water kefir. It's so simple! I was nervous for nothing. I am still learning what the taste and smell should be but after the refresher and the first 24 hours, my grains doubled and I had tons of tiny new grains growing after 48 hours. I dumped it like the instructions said and stated my first batch. I want to try it on its own first but I plan to do a second ferment to get a nice soda fizz. ππ½ I'm stoked! Also, I know some instructions say use plastic but all I had was a metal strainer and wooden spoon so I carefully scraped the baby grains out into the new batch once it cooled and then the big batch of grains. Everything worked fine! No issues.

It seems to be a good product
I don't know anything about making Kiefer water, this was my first time, so I really don't know if it's working correctly. It only seems to work with coconut sugar, which is fine though it does tend to make it taste like coconut sugar. I tried making the key for water with raw sugar, but it never lost its sweetness. It would really help if you included some pH strips so that you don't have to order them separately. In the beginning I think it would really help so that you can tell maybe from the taste if it's done or not. If you do buy this product I highly recommend that you get pH strips so you know if it is working, it doesn't necessarily help to just taste it, especially if it is your first time making kefir water and you don't know what to expect.
