Good Reference Book
Good Reference book of the Ships of the United States Navy in World War II

Excellent reference material
Very detailed and beautifully illustrated reference that covers all of the warships of the US Navy in WWII. Gives the fate of each ship as well as major details and upgrade for all of the main vessels of the fleet. In the style of old Conway's but with modern information about the ships - highly recommend.

Average.
I would only buy a cheap used copy. Basic information, not all correct. I bought volumes 1 - 6 UK vol. I . USA vol.II. Japan vol. III. Germany vol.IV . France vol. V . Italy vol. VI which was poorly written. Missing to much information, and incorrect information. I pass on all the rest.

Amazing work with a large quirk
As I said in a review of Volume 1 this is a mixture of some excellent features. There is a major quirk. This is mostly a minor nuisance involving at most 5% of the material. The commentary reads like it was written by Yoda. Use the series for the line drawings, the pictures and the data. Have a good laugh after you would not do that for Janes or Conways. The series is worth it.

Loads of obscure details.
Consider this a review of the whole series; Great value for $ spent. You can get a bit lost in the details and format. But essentially you are getting detailed info on EVERY Warship of the period from 1937-1945+!

Great data but book has issues!
The data contained in this book was thorough and meticulously researched. However, one aspect of the book that made it incredibly annoying to try and read was that ALL measurements are metric - lengths beam, depth, armor thickness, gun calibers, etc. So, if you are in the US, and want to know all that great data, you'll have to decipher and translate it from metric to English. No dust jacket.

Unreliable and impossible to understand. Mostly a text version of a spreadsheet.
Accuracy of data varies from unknown to erroneous. This book is impossible to understand. Most of it is a text version of a spreadsheet. It is English translated from Russian translated from the original English and shows that much was lost in translation. My only reason for interest is that this book reveals what Russians apparently believe about about the subject.
