If an old style butcher knife and a kephart knife had a love child.
First a clarification as to why it's called a "sheath" knife, it's an old term and another name for a belt knife and is a way to differentiate it from what we today would call a "kitchen" knife, i.e. it's an outdoors knife meant to be carried in a sheath. The practical differences between this and say a paring knife is the grip, it's a much thicker, full size grip and the blade is slightly more broad ( the dimension from the spine to the edge). It looks like a small butcher knife because that's exactly what it is, a game possessing knife for when your not at your base camp. However it also makes a great bushcraft, hunting or outdoor utility knife, small and light( 3 oz.), full tang, high carbon steel with excellent blade geometry and good edge retention and a good size grip. The way it feels and performs reminds me a lot of a classic kephart knife, though with a butcher knife style tip ( good for skinning game).Besides not coming with a sheath the main drawback most people might have is it's blade thickness, 1/16th of an inch. But in this case this is a matter of personal taste, I think too many SMALL knives today are ridiculously over built and are either way stronger than they need to be or are compensating for poor craftsmanship and/or materials. This knife is as strong as your ever going to need it to be, made of good steel with excellent craftsmanship it might not be able to dig a trench, stab through a steel door or pry a car trunk open but it can do whatever tasks you need done with a small knife( yes even being batoned no problem). The trade off is that this knife is fantastic at cutting things, something that seems to get overlooked in today's cutlery market. If you want a small, light, strong, well designed knife great for cutting then this is a good choice. If you want small sharpened pry bar/entrenching tool this is not a good choice.

A Historic Knife Brand Still Carrying On Tradition
These high carbon steel "Green River" knives and blades are identical to the ones used by our forefathers and Mountain Men pioneering the western United States. They have been made by Russell Harrington Cutlery since the early 1800's, and feature proven designs used as working knives for almost 200 years.Myself, I have known of the Green River knives history for a long time and decided to finally get one, choosing this Sheath Knife. The knife arrived very sharp...the diamond pattern on the wooden handle is likely pressed in, rather than cut...on my knife the pattern was slightly deeper on one side than the other. The manufacturer could strive for better quality control on that, but was not a deal breaker for me. The finish on the blade was fine, very sharp, but it is high carbon steel, so it will need either a regular waxing or light oil film to prevent rusting. The blade will develop a darkened patina over time with use.I am really pleased with the blade length and profile...it is like the Kephart Knife and the Old Hickory Butcher Knife had a love child. This knife will be an excellent compliment to my Condor version of the Kephart Knife and an excellent camp kitchen tool.

Great knife but without a sheath
Knife is extremely sharp out of the box only thing is I had to make a sheath for it.But this for all around general camping or hunting.

very handy blade
I modified the handle to my liking I like the kephart finger groove look up Horace Kephart knife if you don't know what that is. I also rounded the tang and scales at the back top. , cut meat , cleaned fish , made many a sandwich , slices cheese well.takes and holds an edge well. very handy for all sorts of tasks around camp and home. the blade on these is fairly thin makes it a good slicer . If you want to perform cooking and game cleaning utility tasks great , if you want to batton wood and make wood craft projects get a hatchet. Remember Horace Kephart and George Washington Sears bot carried a hatchet for wood work and carried a fairly thin bladed knife 0.125" or less this Belt Knife fits in between the Nessmuk and the Kephart sort of a blend and a handy Skinner/small butcher for game cleaning , cooking and slicing tasks.

Knife is usable, and that is the purpose.
This did not come with a sheath which is mention in the description. Knife is fine for camp cooking. Keep it clean and dry, it will develop patina.

Potentially Perfect Bushcraft Knife
With about 30 minutes of work you can transform this knife into a great bushcraft knife because of the thin profile and carbon steel. I forced a patina and put a convex grind on the knife and it has outperformed all my other bushcraft blades. Not bad at all for sixteen dollars.Pros: Thin profile, 1095 blade steel, excellent blade shape for skinning, easy to resharpen and holds edge well.Cons: Cannot baton large pieces of wood, handle needs sanding out of box.
