High Carbon Steel
Great looking Traditional knife. The high carbon steel sharpens easily but does require a tiny bit more care (don't leave it submerged in water). The patina that it will acquire from use gives the blade character.

Made in the USA
A very fine old style hunting and fishing knife. If one wants a no nonsense working fixed blade this is the one to have. It’s like having a small piece of American history and made with old Fashion quality. Made to be used. 👍🏻👍🏻

Great knife for money
I am really surprised, how well this knife is made. Yes, the handle is cheap, but surprisingly feels well in a hand. Blade is above any compliments. Yes, you can't cut nails with it, but if you need a knife, not an axe, this one is great slicer. It deserved a good sheath, unfortunately it is not included, but what do you expect for this price?

A relatively thin slicing blade that can handle several camp or kitchen chores.
I bought a BPS Knife sheath from Amazon with a ferro rod attached to it. The sheath is WELL made and the Russell 4215 knife fits nicely. If you are not trying to destroy a knife this can Baton SMALL pieces of wood and get a fire going in short time. The knife is a good starter knife. The handles are real wood riveted to the full tang. Not bad for the money. I also changed the D ring to something less fragile than the brass wire that came with the sheath to something a bit more sturdy.

As someone else said, "diamond in the rough."
I'm just an "average Joe" who enjoys the outdoors, but really values a bargain. I have some mid range off the shelf knives (e.g. Fallkniven, a couple Benchmade; I can't see spending 100s or 1000s of $ for a custom, but that's just me) but really like a good value for the money. I have quite a few Moras, for example. I have some Dexter Russell kitchen items, like spatulas/turners, and they're great. Hadn't run into this knife until recently. Definitely a bargain. But it doesn't come with a sheath, and it's been a challenge to get a good idea of one. I've seen the Ka-Bar 5" leather mentioned, but couldn't find any good photos. So I took a chance and ordered one of the sheaths. I've attached photos so others could get an idea of how the knife sits relative to the sheath. Why is this in a review for the knife? Because I figured if someone is looking specifically for this knife, it might help them. There's a rather odd Q&A about how this sheath is somehow dangerous (see the Customer Questions under the knife listing) but I for one couldn't really understand what the writer was saying. The leather is a little thin. OK, the knife. GREAT bargain. Obviously has withstood the test of time; they've been making them for nearly 200 years. Something can't be THAT bad and keep going for that long. Mine came "razor sharp." It's carbon steel, so either use it a lot to develop a patina naturally or create one yourself to reduce rust. In the photo mine's lightly waxed/oiled; will be "forcing" a patina. Keep it oiled; around home when I'm storing carbon steel blades I give them a wipe with microcrystalline wax for protection. I agree w/another reviewer - the handle, as is, isn't great. VERY uncomfortable edges that bite your hand. The checkering is absolutely mass produced, and quickly (hey, look at the price point!). I gave it a light sanding to reduce/round off the edges. I finished it with several coats of food grade tung oil. Much more comfortable. The handle is a bit short (I wear XL gloves for reference); guess folks in the early 1800's had smaller hands (they were smaller overall). But I don't find it uncomfortable after sanding it. Blade is sturdy but thin for slicing. If you want to split wood, get an axe. But for general camping/yard/utility work again, 200 years can't be all wrong. Enjoy the outdoors!

Unbelievable. Over 100 year old design
The media could not be loaded. A great knife for the price. Bought a Dexter produce sheath with it but it is a little big. The sheath I’m using now is a CS Osborne, bought right here on Amazon for about $13. It’s much thicker than the Dexter sheath but still very compact. It’s a really spectacular looking knife. Could use a light sanding on the handle. Cant wait till it gets a nice natural patina. Maybe one day my grandchild will find mine in my tool box and be as amazed as I was.
