Waterman Kultur "Phileas" Translucent Blue CT Fountain Pen - Fine Nib

The product was exactly as advertised although very steeply priced over the original cost of a few dollars. The translucent blue was even more amazing than the picture. Excellent Waterman quality nib writes a little broad. Great buy if you are willing to pay much above the original price point.

This is by my favourite fountain pen, despite initially thinking that I would have to put up with the colour (I'm not a fan of blue in general) and the translucent style, which I thought was a bit odd. However, the praise for the quality of the nib in the other reviews swayed me and I have to conclude that I agree. The pen is lovely to write with, feels perfectly balanced in the hand and I actually like it aesthetically, which was the biggest surprise. The shape is a happy marriage of rounded edges and streamlining, which basically means I thought it wasn't too thin or too fat, or too sharp anywhere. Really nice, simple design.

First off I must say I have never had a 'good' fountain pen. I have had cheap Parkers and that is about it: one of which developed a very loose cap; the other was 'scratchy' to use.I did a little research and decided to order two Waterman Kultur pens from a well respected seller PEN SELLER FROM FRANCE. I ordered two as I had read various reviews that told me quality was variable. This is only what I would expect for a 10UKP (read dirt cheap) fountain pen. But for 10UKP lied the potential to get a very good fountain pen.The pens arrived together in their own plastic cylinders. The seller included an receipt as well as emailing me a copy of the same. I fitted Waterman ink cartridges to both and tried them.I did indeed get pens of varying quality. The blue one here was almost like writing on air. I am very very pleased with it and would buy a bunch if they were consistently of this quality. But I was right in my thinking there was a good deal of variability in the Kulturs. The purple one (reviewed on its own listing) was very scratchy and the ink was laid down thinly and unevenly. I did a little work on that and now have a pen that is much better (I rated it at 4 stars out of 5) but still not as good as this blue individual I got here which is now my 'best pen'.

It's a great writer for sure.. Maybe better from a Pilot Metropolitan, more beautiful and a little lighter. Unfortunately, the nib is not Fine but more medium from a Metropolitan. If you want a Fine nib, this fountain pen is not for you. If you want a medium fountain pen, it's absolutely perfect! :-)

There is something very charming and engaging about this pen. It aint the best of writers but I just like using it.
