The knife seems to be well constructed, is a very nice looking knife, and feels quite solid. However, I have severe doubts that this is actual Damascus steel for the following reasons. 1) The pattern does not go clear to the cutting edge, is not able to be visualized inside of the serrations on the back of the blade, nor does the Damascus pattern extend through the tang. While I could potentially understand a non-Damascus tang being welded onto the knife, this would make me question the strength of the blade. The Damascus pattern should be visible inside the serrations on the back of the knife since you would be cutting through multiple layers of steel to make said serrations. I would also expect the pattern to continue, even if muted somewhat, all the way down to the cutting edge, because once again you would be grinding through layers of steel to make said edge. 2) The grain of the Damascus pattern inside the fuller of my blade seems to be running perpendicular to the grain of the Damascus pattern on the blade itself. 3) The thick edge of the spine shows no pattern as I would expect with a steel that had been folded 9 times to make an advertised 288 layers as this blade was supposed to be. Also of note, while the sheath is nice and solid, it is also something that has been mass produced and thrown together. My father is a hobbyist leather worker and the sheath does not show any of the burnishing or edge sealing that would denote this holster had been assembled with some attention to detail. In conclusion, while this is a nice looking and seemingly well constructed knife for the price, I am almost certain it is not the Damascus steel it is advertised as being. Only time and use will tell how well it is actually constructed though.
