It's your typical red LED flashlight, except in this case, the LED is red instead of white, so it gives off a red light, which is good for activities in the dark where you don't want to see afterimages because of some idiot waving a bright white light around while you're trying to see dark details. The top of the flash light pushes and pulls to make the light wide dim or focused bright. It's not a red filter on a white light; it's actually a red LED. It works great, and little kids love it because it's something new that lights up, and practically begs to be used for ten minutes before being left lying on the floor until the battery runs out, because what kid ever turned off a flashlight??? That's why there's TWO. One for you, one for them.

This light is small and I mean super small but it seems to be built well and ya can't beat the price. The light output is good for walking the beach during turtle season but I wouldn't suggest these if you need to put light far out. I like the clip for easy pocket or pant storage and the adjustment to the beam pattern is useful. Im happy with my purchase

The only issue with this red LED flashlight is that it's too bright, IMHO. The culprit is not the LED but the clear lens which focuses the light and makes it significantly brighter. This might not be an issue for some, but for astronomical observations, the light is too bright for my tastes. That said, a simple solution is to remove the clear lens. The brightness and focus are reduce but remain bright enough to read charts or selecting a different eyepiece. Although removing the lens exposes the LED, it still well recessed inside the housing and shouldn't be affected by dropping the flashlight or bumping the front of it against something. A clear piece of plastic could be cut out as a substitute.

Ok so kinda kidding here, it’s for my staying up late and watching tv, without waking my spouse. Have really narrow walkways, tired of night bruises. Works well, nicely made, do recommend.

This takes just one AA size battery. The light is easily adjustable from spot to more of a flood. It's only a red light which is what I needed. I recommend this!
