These are new Allen Edmonds Strand in Walnut purchased on 2/5/20. The leather is a full grain open pore leather and it took quite a bit of time to reach my objective. Over maybe 3 days, I allowed the early coats to cure and will shrink over time. After the coats penetrated and shrink, I applied many thin coats to reduce crazing and cracking. There are many excellent videos on YouTube to show different techniques for shining shoes. So I finally pulled the trigger and purchased some of the Saphir products which is more expensive than other brands. In my opinion, they are well worth for the money.These shoes were treated with Saphir Renovateur Leather Cleaner and Conditioner two coats, Saphir Medaille D'or Creme Polish #03 Light Brown three coats, Saphir Beaute'Du Cuir Pate de Luxe Yellow Paste Wax many thin coats, top coated with Saphir Medaille D'or 1925 Cognac Brown many thin coats.I have over 50 years of experience for shoe leather care starting shining my father's Army boots and his dress shoes. I wanted to please my father and he trusted me for any shoe polishing. He used Kiwi so I used the brand maybe up to 9 years ago. Changed to Lincoln which had more solvent which allowed me to achieve a deeper shine. Last year, I bought a tin of Angelus Neutral Paste Wax and it met my expectations as a fine wax. But the Saphir line surpasses the other brands I have used.Of course, some of the experts have a patented method to achieve a mirror gloss with a dry cotton cloth , Saphir wax, and cold water. I use the same method with the exception that I wet the cotton cloth with very hot water and wrung out close to slightly damp. After the initial applying wax using a damp cloth, it achieves a mirror shine much faster. I dab with small cold water drops on the leather as needed. But the damp cloth with the paste wax creates a smoother level of friction to achieve the shine I wanted. The Saphir products are just simply better period
