Profound Reflections of One Who Truly Sought to Live the Beatitudes
Yes, Dorothy Day was a stubborn pacifist. She thought little of capitalism and flirted with Communism in her youth (though she could not abide its atheism). But that is not what this book is about. Dorothy Day sought, sincerely and with unflagging effort and humility, to live literally the Beatitudes of Christ. Help the poor, even the ungrateful, embrace poverty, be joyful, pray unceasingly, trust the goodness of God. This book collects excerpts from her writings, including letters and journals not written by her for publication, and presents her profound reflections on an uncompromising, Christ-centered way of life. They are beautiful, at times heartbreaking, and always challenging, as Ms. Day constantly challenged herself. This is a devotional; it does not get into her activism which can be found elsewhere. This is Ms. Day in the quiet of her own heart. I have read many excellent devotionals; this is the finest. This one cuts to the chase.

Wonderful short compilation from a modern saint.
I’m amazed at how much I still need to learn from those who have done so much ! Why did it take so long for me to stumble upon this book? God’s timing, I’m sure.

Inspiring
Nice read to keep one focused on the spiritual. Just a little short. Did offer some powerful insight passages that I continue to mull over.

A wonderful collection
There is a lot written on Dorothy Day. This fine little volume collects her own thoughts on Christian love and obligation, and as such provides a good place to start. Easily read in one sitting, but something I'll want to return to. After reading The Reckless Way of Love, which I highly recommend, you will probably want to seek out the other literature by and about her. Good job Plough Publishing House!

So grateful for this fine book!
What a wonderful and much needed book. These particular selections of Day's writings are truly the 'cream' of her heart. Her words are honest, helpful, intimate, raw, direct, and above all, worshipful. The diverse and confounding pieces of her fall together. I find her on her knees. .. I feel invited to kneel with her as sister and friend.Thank you, Carolyn Kurtz.

A little too esoteric for me.
I'm finding it too abstract for me to relate to.
