ThuleMotion XT Rooftop Cargo Carrier

My family has smaller cars due to our proximity to the city, but the XXL fit our Impreza. I had to move the crossbars and carrier forward so that I could open the hatch without touching the backside. Plenty of storage for camping and road trips. Very sturdy cruising at 80mph. It adds some wind noise, but if you close the sunroof sun shade, it’s pretty muted.The crossbars I use are the Thule AeroBlade Edge Raised Rail Racks.I also use the Thule One-Key System to lock everything. You’ll need a pack of 6; 2 for the carrier, and 4 for the rail racks. But using just one key for all of them is extremely convenient.On average for long distance highway driving, lost about 2mpg, so from 38mpg to 36mpg which is very good for a rooftop cargo carrier. Truth be told, I was drafting about 8 car lengths behind other vehicles. Driven several thousand miles so far and still loving our Thule XXL.

Worth the dollars. Looks great, able to load up with all sorts of bags and things with our family of 5 to really expand the space we have on roadtrips in our Kia Telluride. Super easy to connect to the roof's crossbars (bought an aftermarket set of those since our car doesn't have those as a stock option). No concern with it coming loose with the system that Thule has included. I was surprised how quiet it was with its size. Great design keeps it that way, from what I can tell. Drove through strong rain in our trip from the Midwest to the Gulf Coast. Not a drop of moisture inside when we got there. Worth the extra dollars for the peace of mind you get from the quality.

Update after received replacement:Just finished a 3000 miles road trip, the cargo box was very stable in highway speed, and didn't impact driving at all, however it did impact mileage by 1-2 mpg as expected. The box provided alot of cargo space, protected very well under heavy rain when parked and driving. You need to be gentle when opening and closing the top cover as the plastic material is flexible that if force applied, it could bent and potentially break.-----------------------------------------------Arrived today and installed immediately, the thule box looks great and the installation was a breeze, very well designed. I inspected the box before putting it up, but I guess I missed a small crack in the top cover edge left to the lock area, and while installing the box, opening and closing the cover further damaged it. This is what I was afraid of, without this issue, this would’ve been a great purchase. I don’t think the crack was from the delivery, but rather the plastic edge of the cover had a sharp crack came from the manufacture. Called Thule warranty, they stated if it's within 30 days within the purchase, Amazon would handle the issue, then called Amazon customer service and worked out another new one for replacement. Overall experience with the purchase was great, just hope the replacement comes clean and don’t have to deal with the issue again.

I read many of the reviews about this product and it seemed that the biggest complaint revolved around shipping damage. When I received the box, it was carried into my garage by the delivery men and I inspected the box before accepting delivery. While there was some minor damage to the box, which I documented with my camera, it didn't appear to affect the Thule Cargo Box inside. I immediately opened the box and unpacked the contents. There were 2 keys and a package with the PowerClick mounting system and several straps for securing skis. I tested the open and close function on both sides of the box and it worked well with no hinge problems. Next I loaded the box onto my 2021 Honda Pilot. I secured the box to the factory cross bars and it fit as if made for my vehicle. It's easy to install and would be manageable alone if not for the bulk which makes it hard to get a grip for lifting. There was plenty of clearance for the rear door to swing up and the box does not protrude over the windshield. I drove around for several weeks with the empty box on top of the vehicle and did not notice any problems or noise even at speed (70 mph) despite having no load in the box. Mileage decreased a few miles per gallon and the box is now in my garage waiting for a trip. I gave this box a 5 star rating because it is stable, quiet, easy to install and has plenty of room. I don't have buyers remorse for getting the biggest cargo box around. I think I'm going to love this Thule for many years. You will too.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this item. I could have gotten by a little cheaper but I am glad I did not skimp!This item is quality! it has a nice design to allow you to move the inside roof rack grippers to fit various possible locations and they do not leak.I also loved the positive positions on the slides when opening the unit and that you cannot accidentally not engage the locks or the key will not come out.There was no increase in noise and it did not seem to affect my mpg.This was worth the expense.
