Great coloring, tricky application
I ordered this particular product because it was given high ratings on DIY sites. The application was a bit tricky. I was trying to fill the gap between two boards set at a 90 degree angle. I tried a putty knife and just using my finger to push the product into the gap. The product had an almost sandy like consistency. It seemed to dry quicky. I did need to add more filler in some spots during a second application. Nail holes were much easier to fill. Uneven spots sanded off pretty easily. I really liked the way that the product absorbed the stain. I was using a darker stain on oak. While the filler is slightly lighter than the stained wood, you have to look close to notice.

The only wood fill that has a strong bond, doesn't shrink, and sandable.
Great quality. Use it for all wood repairs. Would not use anything else. We buy the small container so it can be used up. All wood fill can eventually dry up so we reduce waste and purchase just enough to get jobs done.

My go to wood filler
Easy to spreads and fill minor defects in wood. Dries quickly and is easy to sand. Takes stain well. Almost a perfect match for hard maple. It does tend to dry out in the container over time, but a little water renews it.

Great product overall, but not this time
As far as the product itself, I have used it many times and have been satisfied with the results. I like that it holds up to power sanders as well as hand sanding. I was disappointed with this purchase as part of the product arrived dried out. Normally I would have contacted the seller to return and replace, but I was under a time crunch working on a very special Christmas present for my grandson so I had to use what I could. Thankfully I had enough to get the job done. The three star rating is for this purchase, not for the product itself. The Elmers Probond Wood Filler is definitely a 4 star product. Not necessarily the best product on the market, but one of the best in it's price range for what it does, and for the DIY person such as myself. I am sure there are professional wood workers that could point someone to more expensive better wood fillers for pros.
