So Much Fun!!!
This was my third purchase of mushroom grow kits from Back to the Roots. Every time I worry that I did something wrong and the next day I see the growth starting. Once you realize it’s working FOR SURE they start nearly doubling in size every day. It’s a fascinating process and just so fun to do. I don’t even have kids that I’m doing these kits with, just entertaining myself! The oyster mushrooms themselves are delicious and really if you price them at a grocery store, it’s far more affordable to have the fun of growing them from the kits!Back to the Roots is an awesome company. They guarantee your kit will grow and even quickly answer panicky emails from a crazy woman that thinks she ruined her mushroom block 😂😂😂It’s worth mentioning that if, like me, you own pets that mean well but assassinate household plants; these kits can hold their own for the most part. There’s no potting soil to get knocked out of a planter, no tempting green leaves taunting kitties to nibble on them, no glass vase to shatter and spill water everywhere. Just a nice durable cardboard box and the substrate block inside of it. That said, once your fungi really start to party and reach outside of the box THEY can be broken or separated from the block too early but it’s easier to find ways to anchor a cardboard box than most other plant containers.Just get them!! They’re so much fun and you get produce as a reward.

I've only done one so far but was easy and came out good enough for me!
I've only grown the regular oysters and they came out fine. They didn't grow as big as others that I've seen but that could have had a lot to do with my environment. Either way there were easy to start and yes they grow fast. Cool thing to do with the kids. I'll being trying the pink oysters next!

This is a nice start.
This is a cool option. I’ve tried it twice now and it worked great one time but not the other. The biggest difference was the second time we live in Florida and the first time we lived in Pennsylvania. Florida spirited great because we’re in a humid climate! Pennsylvania worked really poorly. Never grew and turned to mold. I sprayed as directed but I think it probably needed more moisture. My recommendation would be to wait for a humid season or spray more often if you’re in a dry climate.

Love them but got bad batch
I love these grow kids but unfortunately I got a bad batch. Opened the box to a mushy liquid block. I contacted their customer service and they are sending a new one. They are a great company and deserve great reviews!! I really appreciate them getting it replaced so quickly and I can't wait till my new kit comes in. But if anyone else experiences this, don't worry, they will replace it!!

Bought for gift
I bought these for a gift. I found a video of how to grow and sent to the recipient so they knew what to do. They ended up growing both at the same time because the packaging started to undergo changes and they were worried they were going bad. They followed the instructions and got a crop from both. They tried for a second crop, but only got a second crop from one box (the beige/oyster colored ones). They said the mushrooms were very good.Overall, a fun experiment. The recipient loves mushroom so it made for a nice gift. They were easy to grow, just soak and then spray a few times a day. You'll get a crop within a week or so. The packaging did look a little off a few weeks after arriving so I recommend purchasing close to the date you plan to grow and they seem to grow or get funky in the box over time if you don't start them growing. The crop was about a cup of mushrooms total from each box each time.I think this would be a fun activity for a kid, they might learn to love mushrooms by growing them. But I dont' think these will replace buying fresh from the produce aisle for most people.

Bag of water
So this is probably a weird thing to write, but here we are: I grow a lot of mushrooms from kits. I use them to build soil in my garden, we keep them inside to grow mushrooms from stir feta, sometimes I just get spawn or plug kits for growing mushrooms outside in the summer. Most of my mushroom stuff comes from North Spore because I love them and their product is consistent and good. These kits are made out of sawdust that’s been inoculated and formed into a block. You cut a hole in the block and mist the surface and wait. It’s a little more complicated than that but not much.I got the two kits together. The pink oyster kit was just water and a little but of mushy sawdust. Not a nice block. Just liquid. The oyster had some solidity to it but was sitting in a pool of liquid. I have tried to grow that one but don’t have high hopes. Returning them is more hassle than it’s worth so I’ll just bury the liquid in some wood chips and hope a few mushrooms come up.Either way, I’m very disappointed. I have bought these kits a few times when they first came out and had no problems. But both came in sealed bags, no way for anything to seep in, and they were more brown water than kit.

Great service - good company
I ordered a two-pack of the pink and white oyster mushrooms. The pink one had a problem, and it did not work. The packaging had a hole in it and the growing medium had dried up. Roots Organic responded quickly when I contacted them and they replaced the kit immediately. It was much appreciated. The mushrooms grow well and tasted good.
