get your steps in without having to worry about slipping
like most of the country we have been in a deep freeze for about a week. light snow fell for two days, and since that time the thermometer has only made it to 32 for a few hours. walking in the snow was fine until a couple days ago when we had freezing rain and then freezing fog…when taking the garbage out proved a harrowing experience, I felt it was a good time to pull out the yaktrax. even though the windchill is 2 the dogs and I have been dying to get out and walk.I returned several “copy cat” products before stepping up to the yaktrax. even though I may only wear them a couple of days a year, I could tell many would break because of poor construction or inferior materials, others where just too small for work boots. I bought a pair of XXL yaktrax to fit over my size 13, 8” insulated boots and they fit perfectly, moreover, they worked to perfection. they allowed me to go places I would never consider and had zero concern - as sure footed as a yak (I suppose). we live on a bay off a huge lake that had frozen over…even out there my traction was excellent and I had a good walk with the dogs…I also like how easy they are to put on and take off. I used to wear an old pair of metal spiked, golf shoes when it got cold…but those aren’t insulated and it’s real easy to end up with wet feet. Nor do I want to spend several hundred dollars on a special boot. this way I can wear whatever I want to and be assured of traction. I do recommend sizing up one size if you are going over hiking or work boots. the construction of yaktrax is simple but robust. I think the rubber is strong and isn’t going to snap in a year like some I looked at.lastly, yaktrax aren’t going to impair your traction on a clean surface either and that’s what has sold me on them. I highly recommend these for anyone who likes to get out irrespective of what mother nature throws at you.

Works on ice
After taking a fall on iced over sidewalk this winter I bought these. The next ice over stepped outside and gracefully fell down. Went back in and put these on and I was back to having traction without any slipping. Was able to walk freely outside without the worry of falling down. Completely recommend this product. Super easy to put on and take off.

Excellent, but only for one season
These are my go-to for winter traction. The good: Yaktrax Diamon Grip are super portable, so keeping a pair in the car doesn't take up appreciable space. The grip beads do a really good job; I've walked down my steep driveway while it was completely covered in ice with no issues. They are also light weight and don't feel any different than walking on a gravel surface. The stretchy rubber keeps them attached very securely to my boots. The bad: They mention using aircraft cable in the design. I suppose that's supposed to make them sound high-tech or something. Aircraft cable, as anyone who ever owned or maintained an airplane could tell you, rusts. That works fine in aircraft as the cable is regularly greased to, among other things, keep it from rusting, but it doesn't really work for footwear. If the cable lasts more than a season, you're doing well. Further, that cable is attached to a rubber harness. It's a race to see if the cable or the rubber will fail first. Plan on your new Yaktrax Diamond Grip to last for only one winter and you won't be disappointed. The new: I've been purchasing Yaktrax Diamond Grip for years. I always purchase the medium size which was a tight fit on size 9 boots, but was acceptable. This year I purchased medium again. I was happy to see that they finally did away with the left vs. right foot in favor of a universal design, but I was surprised to see that the product was considerably smaller than my last purchase. The box still says "medium" and the chart says medium fits sizes 6.5 to 9, just like before, but it's much too small for size 9s. Maybe drop their size table down one size for the new product?

Awesome traction
Fantastic products awesome traction pretty good on hills, but realistically you need a sharper larger spike if you’re doing steep inclines for flat ground and slight inclines. It’s an amazing product. I wish there was a Velcro strap to tighten up the top hence the 4 stars other than that amazing.

Quiet, comfortable + secure walking, but save your money
I've had a pair of regular old YakTrax for like 30 years. Finally, the metal popped off. I bought them again on Amazon, AND I sprung for these beefier Diamond YakTrax. It's all over for the regular ones.*** Seriously. When I wore them I sometimes still slipped, and on regular pavement, crunch-crunch-crunch, they were super noisy. Also I felt separated from the ground, like I could not grip it with my sneaker outsoles. The diamond version provide a more secure and comfortable ride. I feel a little closer to the ground in these, and also, they are quite a bit quieter on all surfaces than the regular YakTrax.I am just leaving them on my winter walking sneakers for now. There are sections of the road where I walk every day that are clear, and then there are sections with slush and thick ice. These diamond YakTrax allow me to keep my pace, whether it is walking fast or jogging. There is nothing worse when you are out there walking for fitness to have to slow down and pick your way along, for fear of falling. If you live where it gets cold and sometimes snows and freezes, don't hesitate. Yes, you could pull a muscle in your groin or break a fingernail struggling to stretch them over your shoes, but it is worth it.*** Yes, my originals lasted decades. I was out for a walk/hike today, very sloppy out and one of my Diamond Grip YakTraks broke. Yes, just rusted away. Who are these really for? Someone who needs them for half a season? I am very unhappy with the quality control here. Serious: regular old YakTraks last and last. Diamond Grips don't even last a full winter season. Bummer. Fell right off my sneaker. They left me out there two miles from my car and nothing but black ice and slush to get through. As soon as I got back to my car, the originals went back on my Hoka One Ones. What a waste of money these Diamond Grips are.
