Well built and has decent power
My old cordless trimmer fit on a pole attachment with plastic wheels... one of those wheels came off and I cannot find it. So no more rolling it along the grass trimming. In addition, the old one would jam on any woody twigs. It came with two heads: one for trimming grass the other for shaping shrubs. Because this old one was fading, I needed to replace it and purchased this Gardenia trimmer. The Gardenia is heftier indicating good build quality. The cutting head snaps into the pole easily but securely. I won't have to worry about the wheels coming off of this extension pole either. I've been very impressed by how well this performs in long grass. Remember not to go too fast and it works fine. It has also not gotten "grass jams" like the old one did. The Gardenia has sufficient power to cut through small vines and flowers. It handles towering weeds. It can even cut through small tree saplings that are less than 3/16th" thick. It is easy to recharge and store.I have one gripe: I wish the optional brush cutting head was included with the pole and grass trimmer. That is a fairly expensive accessory to purchase. Fortunately, I don't need it very often so it is not a big deal to me.I thought about getting this for several years as it was a little more expensive than other trimmers. However, after using it for several months, I feel it is well worth the premium price. It works and it works well.

well made grass shears
I purchased this model (8885) to replace a 4 year old similar model (8893) Gardena grass shears that got 'fried' in a lightning strike (it was plugged in to the charger at the time of the strike). This model does everything I need it to do, including a nice job on edging along our one section of lawn that is next to a sidewalk (by holding the shears sideways with the blades vertical). Both models have a long work cycle between charges. I have never needed to stop and charge it in the middle of a project, and I'm sure I've run it for twenty or thirty minutes at a time. These are well made and should last for years (I now unplug it from the charger and the charger from the wall outlet after its charged). The first model I owned (8893) had a difficult to insert and remove power cord. The port for the charging cord on this is easier to use (less tight a fit).

Amazing tool, so happy with my upgrade from another brand
This trimmer is amazing. I was using a Sunjoe trimmer which was so frustrating as it would not cut more than 3-4 grass blades at a time. The Gardena is simply amazing. Cuts super thick grass with no problem. Also really really nice that it has a battery level indicator. There is no need to adjust the grass with your free hand (which is super dangerous) with this trimmer it cuts right though. I used it to edge a patio with no problem. Wish I got this years ago but the high price kept me away. You really get what you pay for here as the performance makes this an exceptional value.Very happy with this Amazon buy.

Sharp and easy to use, but ...
These clippers work great (best I've ever used), but the blades will go dull eventually and a good cleaning and sharpening won't help—and good luck getting replacement blades. The ones shows in the "frequently bought together" are for a different model of clipper, and when I contacted the company about replacement blades for this model, they sent a robo-response and never followed up. Too bad, because they'd be a cinch to replace. I'd rate these 5 stars if it weren't for this.

Better than expected!
I ordered this on Friday and it arrived on Sunday... just as I was beginning to mow the grass. I plugged it in for a bit and then took it out to trim the tall grass on the side of the house and along a retaining wall where the mower can't reach. It cut effortlessly and I was easily able to get everything done on the partial charge. Like many others, I had a cheaper model from Home Depot that I gladly retired a few weeks ago. That model was frustrating, lacking power to cut through the grass, frequently locking up, and requiring one or more charges to get the job done. The Gardena 8885 cut so well, a full charge wasn't even needed. I was done trimming in little time. I chose this 3.6v model over the 8893 for the cost savings and because I didn't think I'd need the extra duration the 8893 affords. So far, I don't have any regrets over that choice. I was a little concerned at first when I turned it on because the blades seemed slow but it truly trimmed the grass like a hot knife through butter. I'm not one to write reviews but this model was worth every penny and I'm so glad I didn't go for another off the shelf model. It is very light. This model doesn't have the wheels but I saw no need for them. Yes, the cord is a little tough to plug in but I'll overlook that. I didn't see any way to lock it in the on position but had no trouble with using the trigger. Once it's going, you can let go of the top knob so I didn't find that difficult. I will gladly give this 5 stars.

HORRIBLE! DIED IMMEDIATELY
I seldom write reviews and typically only positive ones. However, I am so disappointed in myself for buying this item. At first, I loved it. It was my new toy. However, I noticed I couldn't charge the battery unless I plugged the power cord for the shear into an extension cord... don't get that one at all... and I first tried every outlet in the house before thinking to try the extension cord. After 2 weeks the whole darn thing just died. The blade stopped working altogether. I looked up the price of a replacement shear and was shocked by the price (and I don't know that replacing the blade would have done the trick anyhow). I decided to write this review now because I bought the Ryobi trimmer and wow, it's amazing! It comes with the batter and two blades (grass trimmer and bush trimmer). I have had zero issues and bought it from Home Depot just in case I have a problem, I know that I can return it or exchange it. Don't waste your money. You will love it out of the box and then hate it 2 weeks to one month later. That's my opinion and horrible experience.
