Freshly Started Flightless Drosophila Hydei Fruit Fly Culture

They may not fly, but they fly!
These flies are very active. The mantis' really like them, but they jump far and fast, so they are hard to catch and contain. I put them in the freezer for about 3 minutes before I give them to the mantis'. That works pretty well. Also, there is a ton of larva in the base material, so I fed some of those to a sick mantis. That worked pretty well until he could eat the flies again.SECOND BATCH: Excellent condition, nice and fat flies for my growing mantis.

Rip off and waste of money.
Rip off and waste of money. When it arrived it actually had ants inside. All the flies were dead at the bottom. And there were only maybe 15 fly bodies at best. Dont do it. Theres a reason its rated so low.

Breeding like crazy but not flightless
Probably the longest lasting batch of fruit flies. I’ve had. I’m not sure how they keep breathing. I’ve had it for sometime now and all the rest always crash, but I will say these things can fly. They are not flightless.

Don't bother unless you want a nasty runny mess.
A mess. There is NOT enough filler to survive shipping. It's a nasty, runny mess. The flies are mostly drowned. Not a fresh start. Obvious by color. Will not be buying again. Even in the photo for the listing there is twice as much filler. Do better.

Looks like a good batch
The media could not be loaded. Really good batch looks like they’re all alive. Saw some reviews of all being DOA, but I have a very plentiful cup of flightless fruit flies that my jumping spider will love.

Spider food
It was as described except there were some flying and it was supposed to be all flightless.

Flight
- shakes flies to bottom and opens container to feed mantis-cloud of fruit flies ascend into the open houseSo... these ones are not flightless! The last batch came in wonderfully, and these are still my best surviving flies I've gotten in the mail. But stick them in the fridge for a bit just in case.

Great value!
Great culture for the price. Hydei were of a nice size and there were a large number of them
