Nice balance of price and reliability for a trusted brand
I've bought several of the WD Blue SSDs over the years to speed up my own and family member's old computers. It's a cheap, simple way to make a noticeable improvement in boot time and speed. The WD Blue has been my goto for a balance of price and reliability and I have yet to see one fail.

Hasn't Failed
Never had trouble with WD drives and I've used this for months for data storage without fail and used WD for decades without troubles. As with all data storage you have to weigh your needs against price and I found the price compared to storage acceptable.

BEWARE!!!
I hardly write a negative review but I could not let this one go.I bought 3 WD BLUE 1TB SSDs, 2 from Amazon and one abroad. Initially I was very happy to revive an old laptop which I use as a plex server. That was the first SSD I bought late July last year. Returning recently from a long trip abroad, I found out it was dead already, so it could have died between the 7th and 11th month after it was installed. LESS THAN A YEAR! I've had SSDs from Kingston and Samsung , all are still working great after 3 to 8 years (more than half are over 8 years old!)The dead SSD could not be recovered or recognized. The WD Dashboard Tool would sometimes momentarily see it but just stops/ hangs. Same with Partition wizard...Frustrated, I used my spare WD BLUE to reinstall OS and lo and behold, my laptop cannot find a partition! So I used the WD Dashboard to figure out what's going on - it says there is a new firmware available - so I installed it. STILL DIDN'T WORK! I reformatted the disk using Windows - still NO GO! I used Partition Wizard - still NOTHING!At this point I'm afraid my laptop may have been damaged. One way to find out is to get either a Kingston or a Samsung - my tried and tested brands. I ordered Samsung, got it today, installed OS with no problem at all to my relief. So I got 2 dead WD BLUEs - RMA in process.I got 1 more WD BLUE in another laptop which is abroad and I hope will last long enough for me to replace the SSD before it dies. And I also got 1 WD GREEN in another laptop which is also abroad and I hope will last long enough, too -but the GREEN was rated below the BLUE...What a disappointment this has been as I have had no problems with other Western Digital HDDs. WD should pull these models out of the market as these could cost a lot of wasted time and loss of data for the end users.Interestingly the price of this particular model has dropped tremendously from a year ago...Should have believed the negative reviews... NO MORE WD SSDs for me!I hope this does not happen to anyone else.

Works much faster than standard Laptop drive
I’m new to SSD tech, and my laptop is about 6 years old and was terribly bogged down by Windows 11 background processes — chiefly Windows Search Indexer. So, I thought maybe said I switch out the drives, I won’t have to get an all new computer in these tough economic times.Short story is that it worked eventually, and the drive is much quicker. When I run chkdsk on it, it does stop and say a couple of error were found, so I’m not exactly feeling totally secure in it, but it does seem to function now that I have it installed. It wasn’t till after I opened the Dell laptop that I saw that it has a slot for the other type of SSD that doesn’t have this traditional shape and SATA connector — and I read that those are even faster, the ones that look like a skinny motherboard and.plug into a slot. I would have gone with that style had I known. Oh well. This drive comes with nothing but the drive. So, you’d need a separate USB connector if your laptop only has one drive interface. And then you also have to go to the WD website to download software to do any cloning and backup — it’s called Acronis. And it was tough to work with.If you are trying to clone via USB, then you have to pull out the original drive and hook that up to the USB cable. And then you have to put the new SSD inside the laptop. If you have two slots none of this matters. But the new drive has to be inside of the computer for it to be made bootable on that computer. Allegedly, it will not boot up if you use any exterior cloning devices. The main problem was that it kept saying it was unable to “lock” the new drive. I tried a bunch of stuff and pulled out an ancient PC to try and get it going. I must’ve tried fitty ‘leven different times, but eventually I did hit the correct combination of elements. Pain in the behind, but it is possible.Does not make up for a slow processor or display that doesn’t look very good, and battery that won’t hold a charge — but it has refreshed my ability to get work done. Also, turn off Windows Search Indexer. Stupid waste of resources.
