Great for beginners
I advice you start on Duolingo and then implement with this book after you gained confidence with the alphabet

Decent book but needs an editor/proofreader
I've been studying Hindi for well over a year on my own with various books. I have a decent command of the script and bought this book for revision purposes. I find that it matches that need quite well in a structured way. There is a good variety of exercises and the book also provides real world conversations in a variety of situations, which I've found to be quite useful. The only issue for me is the poor editing/proofreading. There are numerous mistakes that any editor worth his salt, especially from a big publisher like Tuttle, should have caught. Hopefully future editions will correct those errors.

There are better Hindi textbooks out there
There isn't a standard for the phonetic spelling of the Devanagari script and there are a number of grammatical errors. I prefer using Rocket Languages app or Basic Hindi textbook instead.

Poor Phonetic
This is a good with the help of the CD; however, instead of using IPA symbols, Tuttle uses a different pronunciation. This is where Tuttle goes wrong all the time. It is a pity because they have very good books.
