Five Stars
Long wearing for a waterstone, fast cutting on oil-hardened and A2 steel. Exactly what you would expect from Norton.

Good 1000 stone, cuts well and is priced well.
This is a nice fast cutting stone. It is consistant and is just as easy to maintain as any other waterstone. It is priced well and lasts as long as most other 1000 grit waterstones.Overall a good value.

So far so good
To begin with, I am a complete novice with sharpening knives/tools however already have had some initial success with this item. I have used this (in conjunction with a 220 grit stone and combination 4000/8000 grit stone, both from Norton as well) on my EDC knife, a SOG Escape which is 9cr18mov steel, and can easily shave hair from my arms/legs (facial hair is a bit harder to do). I feel like this stone is definitely better than I am at this point, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try this out. I will try to upgrade this review once I've had a chance to use it with my recently purchased straight razor.

Not a combination stone
Works as expected.Be aware this stone as well virtually all stones at lower grit will be spent faster than the higher grit.IMO that is the main reason to prefer this stones instead of combination stones also from Norton.I am plenty glad with its performance.

Garbage-Buy Japanese waterstones only.
Worst stones on the market. Igot mine over 10yrs ago and seldom used them du to their super fast wearing properties. I don't remember where they were made but I'd guessed Canada,as thats where Norton abrasives is based. Mine were bought from Lee Valley Tools which is also from Canada. The 4000 stone as well as the thicker 400 were complete duds. No fkn way could the 400 be used for lapping plane irons or chisels and same for flattening finer stones. Complete garbage. And Lee Valley is still selling Nortons trash. Leonard Lee supposedly had something to do with the formulation and manufacture of these abominations.

Good for razor bevel setting novice
Bought the stone for razor bevel setting. Although I am a beginner, I repaired an Ebay razor with a small chip and set the bevel with this stone. Then finished with the Norton 4K/8K and the result was a great shaving razor.
