KUBEYTityus KU322J Folding Pocket Knife with 3.39" Drop Point Blade G10 Handle for Outdoor Camping Everyday Carry
R**1
Good price, good company but overall just Ok. 3.5 to almost 4 stars, rounded up to 4 stars.
Pros: Ergonomics of the knife are good if you have medium-large hands (as opposed to larger or medium-small to smallish hands). Flipping action is very good & a large thumb hole makes the thumb flick/reverse flick easy as well. Detent seems well tuned, some drop closing action but needs some assistance to fully close. Although that may loosen up with use. The Red & Black colors look very good together (I think that was what got me to try another Kubey). No play in blade and blade is well centered when closed. Liner lock sets well, when you open it w/ gusto, and is fully engaged. The is a small offset on the hand-side scale so reaching the liner lock is quite efficient. There is fairly good jimping where you need it and a nice sharpening choil.Cons: The quality of the handle and sharpness of the blade out of box. The G10 is finished poorly or is of poor quality to start. Very hard in the hand and looks distinctly plastic-y. I'm sure that some folks will say-"It's plastic stupid, what did you expect?" However, I have several other inexpensive knives, like a couple of Feldspars, that the G10 is very well polished and smooth and feels good in the hand. This does not. In edition, my first thought when I pulled it out of the box (and every time I look at it since) was that it looks cheap despite the rich colors of the knife. Reference the blade, it is somewhat sharp out of box but has burrs and an odd sharpening angle for the edge. When I tested it on my arm hairs, it cut the skin in addition to the hair. I tried 3 different areas on the blade and it cut me all 3 times. The cuts weren't deep but they bleed freely for a good while because the skin seemed to had been more torn than sliced.Overall, if you don't mind hard, plastic looking scales then I think the positives of the knife overall make it a good deal. Especially for the $30'ish price. And if you really don't mind the scales, it will probably make a good edc once it's sharpened up. The blade is D2 so getting a good, uniform edge may take some work but it should hold well once you've got it where you want it. And like I said, it has fairly nice sized choil so you have room to work with. Honestly, given the price point the knife probably deserves 4-4.5 stars but it making it out of the manufacturer with a few burs on the blade kind of ruined it for me. That and my disappointment with the hard, plastic-y scales. Thanks for reading and take care.
