A nice knife-shaped hatchet
For clearing brush, get a thin 24 inch machete instead. This is much better for chopping wood. Straight spine is great for heavy batoning. Very thick, tip heavy blade has good inertia for efficient chopping. I kinda enjoy a knife shaped hatchet. Also it's nice to see a clean basic design aesthetic.

A magnificent machete.
The Yacare is a massive, well-designed, well-executed short machete also capable of serving as a large bushcraft knife. It is an absolute joy to use.The Yacare's handle is nicely contoured and provides a secure, comfortable grip. Users with very large hands may find the guard and pommel squeeze their fingers. Most users will find the same features securely lock-in their grip. The blade itself is over five millimeters (almost a quarter inch) thick and arrived shaving-sharp.The Yacare is balanced nicely, and is unusually responsive for a heavy (if short) machete. In fact, the Yacare is so well-balanced, it can accomplish many camp knife tasks for which a machete is normally too clumsy.Perhaps the only area for improvement I can suggest is that a forward choil would allow a user the grip the knife better for detail work like carving, mincing food plants, or butchering fish or small game. None of these tasks are in the typical machete's range, but the Yacare is not a typical machete.Overall, the Yacare is an exceptional machete, with a wide range of uses thanks to excellent design, good materials, and nearly flawless workmanship.

I love this knife
I just received my Yacare and immediately tried it out clearing some saplings in the yard. It cleaves through green wood beautifully due to its blade-heavy weight bias. Initially the handle felt a little thin and short in my hand (I wears large gloves) and I was worried the lanyard hole would cause a hot spot on my pinky, but in use I found the handle very comfortable. Despite its large size, the knife feels nimble and is quite handy for finer tasks. It came very sharp, but I refined the edge a bit and then used it to prepare myself a snack. I sliced some tomatoes and mozzarella cheese and chopped some basil. With a shaving-sharp edge and some heft the blade literally just fell through the tomato. The long curved cutting edge is great for fine chopping on a cutting board as well. The sheath is pretty basic but usable. The Velcro strap will keep the knife from falling out, but it is possible for some of the cutting edge to become exposed while the knife is sheathed.
