Q: will this communicate with a ws-09 that I have?

they are not compatible. for the ws-09 you would need the f007pf

Oh it can connect but it cannot display the temperature on your unit, nor does it allow you to see it in the Ambient app. It's quite a worthless product with the WS-2902D. Do not waste your money

On Ambients website: The WH31PF communicates with many Ambient Weather Stations (WS-1550-IP, WS-2000, WS-2902B, WS-2902C, WS-3000, WS-5000) via 915 MHz. The other possible pool temp sensor is the WH31P sensor but this requires a WS-2902B (or greater revision), WS-1965, WS-2000 or WS-5000 weather station to view. So you need some other non Ambient solution - check on Amazon, there are several.
