Great lens for the price
I was sceptical at first trying out this lens since it’s a brand I’ve never went with but I was wrong this lens is amazing it’s becoming one of my favourites to use right now.

Video performance is disappointing
This lens is incredibly sharp, and performs well for the most part when shooting photos. If you want to use this to shoot video however, you'll struggle. It loses focus easily, constantly hunts, and reacquring targets can take several seconds. The AF performance makes it more or less unsusable unless in ideal conditions (i.e. filming well-lit, largely static subjects with minimal movement in the foreground). I desperately wanted to love this lens, but its video performance is highly frustrating.

Dud lens
Unboxed this Samyang 85mm f1.4 ii lens and fitted it onto my Sony a7iv. On partially pressing the exposure button, the lens failed to focus. The display image was totally blurred. I removed the lens and re-fitted it and once again, the lens failed to focus. There was no movement and no sound from the focussing motor. In my camera display, the f stop number was not displayed. This lens got excellent reviews and I was really looking forward to using it. I have never had a failed lens before and this experience (this was my 1st purchase of a Samyang lens) has totally knocked my confidence in Samyang. I have requested a refund and will now look towards buying the more expensive Sigma equivalent lens.To add to my misery, despite returning the lens the same day I received it (24th November), I have not received my refund 16 days later!! The return process was acknowledged by Amazon but the message continues to say a refund will be processed once we receive the item! How much longer before I get my refund Amazon?
