Q: Will this work on red ants in the garden???

I have actually found it is fairly useless unless it is heaped up as a stopping them from moving away from it that goes for all red,black ,Brown or flying ants

Q: Do the ants take this into the nest to kill those underground, or does it just kill the ones in direct contact to the sprayed area?

As this is a fluid... not granules, its killing on spot and what you can spray into the holes. We use this when the flying ants go mad by the patio door. Otherwise we use the little traps you leave out, where they carry the poison to the nest

Q: will this work for bird mites?

No it won't. You'll need an approved medicinal vet recommended product for that.
