Excellent beginners Violin
I bought this for my daughter who is learning. What you get.The kit contains the Violin, Bow, case and some Rosin.Set upThis needs some time and patience. It comes with the strings attached but not tuned. I suggest buying a clip on tuner which is accurate and inexpensive and can be used by a beginner. Amazon sometimes offers this as part of a suggested buy and is well worth doing.Tuning for the first time should be done gradually, it is unlikely that the Violin will come into tune on day one. Adjust the strings over a couple of days. You will need to Rosin the bow as it does not seem to have any on it out of the case. rosin condition the bow and makes the bow strings rough so that when they move across the string they cause it to vibrate and produce a note. It may take several applications and several days before the bow is play ready - there is lots of help on Google - just type in something like 'setting up a new Violin'. Once the bow has been conditioned and the strings tuned you can begin playing. In use.The Violin p0lays well and once tuned it stays in tune quite well. The finish is nice and surprisingly the sound is excellent for a Violin at this price point.Overall.A good starter Violin but it will need patience to set up to get the best out of it.

Not bad, I just miss some deeper tones
I didn't expect too much from it, but it (still) performs well. It has a very strong sound, though I think the range is a little thin. Not bad, I just miss some deeper tones. That or violins don't even have them.

+ Good quality, stay in tune OK
+ Good quality, stay in tune OK, orange/red colour instead of brown, wooden pegs+ Possibly the cheapest you can get without compensating on quality & with a reasonable sound-- steel strings a little hard to press for beginners, OK if you are used to it-- rosin that come with it sounds badNB I changed to pirastro tonica G,D,A strings and pirastro gold E (around 40 quid), much more comfortable to press but sounds a little scratchy. Changing the rosin solved the problem (around 5 quid) now sounds brilliant. Now it adds up to around 135 quid in total.Personal opinion for improving sound quality in order of descending impact and ascending cost: rosin -> strings -> violin & bridge -> bow

NOT set up-damaged case-damaged bow-brown(not green) inside case
The media could not be loaded. At Omega Music, we check and set-up EVERY violin we sell, regardless of the model, or the discount applied to the price! Our workshop process ensures that your violin will be in good playing condition upon receipt. Beware of Student instruments offered without this service, as instruments straight from the factory are NOT set-up, and the process requires technical knowledge, experience and the right equipment. My violin was not set up or checked from what Ive seen. The case had a broken bow holder and so the hairs on the bow were quite damaged and am unable to place the bow into position. The case contained a free packet of resin but the container for the resin its very tight so hard to use.The violin is very out of tune so I doubt a tuning was done. One thing I DO like is that the inside of my case is dark brown instead of green

Good beginer violin.
A brilliant beginner violin. You can obviously tell the difference in sound between this and a more expensive violin but for someone just starting out I'd say this is perfect. The rosin that comes with the violin isn't the greatest and my teacher had to give me a new one almost straight away so would recommend buying a different rosin.Bow is good quality as is the violin itself.I waited a while to post this review so I could give a view of what it like to play. It took 2 months for the violin to "settle in" I.e. it need tuning at the beginning of every session and the bow needed rosining at thw start of every session but 4 months in it's perfect for what I need as a beginner. Just be prepared to give it a little tlc at the beginning because it feels like the violin could last for ages. For anyone a bit more advanced I would definitely recommend paying more though because I don't think you'll get the sound out of this one that you want.

But pretty quickly I actually found myself frustrated by this violin ...
Because of the quality it's a really difficult violin to play. It's very very squeaky and scratchy. I am an adult beginner and therefore undaunted by the fact that the violin usually sounds awful in the hands of beginners. But pretty quickly I actually found myself frustrated by this violin and sold it on. I bought the next violin up in the Stentor range, put some better strings on it and almost immediately starting being able to produce a sound that my violin teacher described as lovely. So if you're serious about learning and want a chance at making a nice sound, give this a miss. Two stars rather than one star cos at least it's cheap.

Great fun for a beginner like me.
Bought this on a whim as I am almost 60 but thought "why not have a go". It seems to be the business and there is lots of free tuition online. Even as a rank amateur I can see it is capable of being expressive ... although right now I'm mostly doing cat-fight impressions and need to choose between a sound proof room and a divorce! It needs to be tuned a lot, maybe because the strings are new so maybe a digital tuner would be worthwhile (I have one for my guitar and it saves loads of time) if you are a beginner like me.
