I documented a photographic trial prior to my holiday to make sure my fish will be OK
So I was going away from midday Sunday to midday Sunday one week later and wanted to trial these before I went, so I knew my fish would be safe. So I bought 3. All my fish survived with no other food although they may have eaten vegetation in the pond although I photographically documented the surface cover of duckweed, etc and it didn't reduce. I placed the starfish shaped 'food' in my waterfall so that I could see if it dissolved and at what rate and some reviews said it stayed solid. Mine dissolved. I took each of the attached photos around midday starting with the first photo when I first placed it in and it shows the surface detail and the moulding marks around the starfish (It was a disc in the photo for what I bought, but I received a starfish shaped one). By Monday, 8 days later there is a very tiny part left. There is definitely not half left in the 7th photo. As it dissolved I could see what appeared to be shrimp like creatures embedded in the material. I am not sure if the white material around these is also food or just a carrier as it was not visible in the flow coming from the starfish. Conclusion: My evidence suggests it does dissolve but would not last 2 weeks. However, the fact it was in the running water of the waterfall could possibly both help it to dissolve and may accelerate the process compared to placing it in the pond. Of course, if I drop it in the pond I can't see it. Another interesting point is whether dropping it in the pond would cause the surface to get protected from dissolving by silt and weed in the pond. My approach is therefore to leave it in the waterfall as I am only away for a week.

Water clear and fish alive after 7 days.
Went away for 7 days, popped one of these in and left my blue light on. (Can't use a timer as lights built in).Came home and water clear, the block was over half dissolved (I removed it).One female beta was just barely alive, but she was old and might have been a coincidence. But my other betas, tetras, guppies, shrimp, snail all happy and alive.I would use again.
