Great Scanner If You Know What You Are Doing!
This is a very good scanner if you know what you are doing. There are many scanners out there that give you their "maximum dpi" which should be illegal because it doesn't mean anything in terms of real world dpi. If you want to know what a scanner can actually do, you need to use the standard USAF Chart Slide. This is a high resolution slide with various lines that are used to determine how much a scanner can actually see (hence Actual DPI). The most expensive drum scanners can do up to 5k DPI, but keep in mind, they cost $10-15k! This scanner, from my testing showed around 4300-4400 Actual DPI which is outstanding compared to other scanners out there (Plustek 8300 can only do like 2400, an epson v850 only does around 2500).To Sum it up, this is a good scanner, but it is not the easiest to for beginners. Once you know how to use scanning software (silverfast software is the best one out there), then this scanner can give you very good quality scans!

Software issues
I would like to say it upfront that the device is capable of creating awesome digital scans of your negatives. Even the automatic film feeder worked fine 90% of the time for me. The issue is on the software side, which is an absolute shame. The OEM software, CyberView, is VERY rudimentary compared to SilverFast or VueScan, and severely limits the hardware capabilities of this product. If you want to use either of the latter two, prepare yourself for a $100+ expense on top of the scanner, only to find out that the buttons on the device won't work (as of August 2024). So, if you want to manually adjust the position of your film, guess what: YOU CAN'T! I emailed the SilverFast guy, and he said it is a conscious decision that Pacific Image made with this model, that the buttons would only work with CyberView. (I think this is criminal.) However, only one software can control the scanner at a time, so launching CyberView to adjust your film is not an option either. I hear you thinking... why not launch CyberView, adjust the film, close CyberView and return to SilverFast... WRONG! The film will be ejected when you switch between the two.So, all in all, I decided that I cannot justify a $500+ expense on something that DOESN'T HAVE a manual mode, and the time and frustration with the software issues led me to leave this 2-star review. I'm returning my scanner.

A Bit Quirky
I bought it to replace my old PrimeFilm XA Super Edition which had begun to give me problems. I have learned with this one that you cannot feed a filmstrip into it until you have the scanning software up and running, whether VueScan (my preferred software) or CyberView X5. It also does not always eject the strip on closing the scanning software. Other than that, it was a wizard on scanning some old negatives where the image was nearly invisible to the naked eye. I am posting such a scan with this review.

Used product/non-functional/sketchy software required
The XA Plus I was sent had already been opened and used. it was non-functional and obviously a return which Amazon re-sold as a new item. The packaging had been torn open and was clearly not inspected by Amazon. This is a serious issue for a $550 item. Furthermore, it's not clear the manufacturer is still in business judging by world-wide availability. I suspect the remaining stock that is still available is comprised of returns, so buyer beware. In addition, the required Mac software download from the manufacturers website is extremely sketchy. It appears previous versions of this scanner could be used directly with Silverfast/Vuescan/etc. without the mfg's new, special, software download... but it is a requirement for the XA Plus. To install, you need to turn off all security on your Mac, ignore all the security warnings, and rename the downloaded .dmg since it has a bunch of weird chinese characters included. I had high hopes for the scanner since older versions received good reviews... although there are plenty of reviews stating poor quality and high failure rate. Avoid this product.

High resolution scanner
High resolution scanner for 35mm film rolls (not for 120 format or 110). It provides with high quality scans.Drivers (CyberViewX_Windows_5.20.60) work well on Windows 10, some crashes on Windows 11.Sometimes it is not easy to load propertly the film.

Impossible to manage frame spacing
Such a headache of a scanner. The entire frame advance system is automated and fails to properly space frames far more often than it succeeds. Picture quality is pretty good but the lack of control over frame advancing renders this device almost useless.

A Very Capable Scanner for 35mm
A very capable and fast scanner for 35mm film. The cyber view software from Pacific Image is not my first choice for scanning. I am using VueScan Professional with mine and the batch scanning and frame alignment have been spot on so far. If you scan frame by frame, you can tweak the negative alignment with the forward and reverse buttons on top of the scanner, which you can see through to your negative (another plus with this scanner). The autofocus and scanning dpi of 5000 makes for some seriously sharp and detailed images right out of the scanner. Very happy with my purchase so far, just use Vuescan! I hope they add compatibility with Silverfast in the near future as well.

Low quality
I really wanted to like this so I could scan full rolls unattended. As expected, it's no where close to 10K DPI. This was not an issue and seems to be a game they all play. The real issue is the film transport. The control buttons are flaky at best. When scanning a full roll, frames will start to skew. It did better with B&W film than color, but in the end frames are lost.I really wish this scanner would have worked. When scanning many frames, having to manually move frame to frame is too time consuming.
