Used product/non-functional/sketchy software required
The XA Plus I was sent had already been opened and used. it was non-functional and obviously a return which Amazon re-sold as a new item. The packaging had been torn open and was clearly not inspected by Amazon. This is a serious issue for a $550 item. Furthermore, it's not clear the manufacturer is still in business judging by world-wide availability. I suspect the remaining stock that is still available is comprised of returns, so buyer beware. In addition, the required Mac software download from the manufacturers website is extremely sketchy. It appears previous versions of this scanner could be used directly with Silverfast/Vuescan/etc. without the mfg's new, special, software download... but it is a requirement for the XA Plus. To install, you need to turn off all security on your Mac, ignore all the security warnings, and rename the downloaded .dmg since it has a bunch of weird chinese characters included. I had high hopes for the scanner since older versions received good reviews... although there are plenty of reviews stating poor quality and high failure rate. Avoid this product.

Not yet ready for Primetime - cannot properly align film strip frames
I wanted to love this scanner. It scans film strips and slides and has manual focus and autofocus.Unfortunately while working properly with my Kodacolor Gold (not sure which variant) film strips, it often misaligned my Fujicolor HD200 film strip frames (emulsion up and down) and provided no reliable means to correct the misalignment. The alignment controls that do exist in the CyberView software are rudimentary and inexact, requiring a lot of fiddling to get an individual frame centered. With a lot of work I was able to scan individual frames, one at a time, but I found batch scanning of film strips impossible. There may have been some later improvement in CyberView but it came too late for me to check it out.I wasn't able to figure out how to eject slides. The Eject button on the scanner doesn't work and the eject button in CyberView is dimmed and inoperative for slides. I had to pull them out with tweezers. The actual scans I managed to get were quite good, especially of slides.I hate to send it back, but send it back I will. I could live with removing the slides with tweezers. I think the scanner is that good. But if I can't align the film strips properly and reliably and, most especially, if I cannot scan my short strips then all the other scanner's features are of no use to me. In time, this could be a great scanner but it isn't there yet.The photo shows a typical misalignment.

Works well
Getting a more consistent and usable scan compared to an EPSON scanner but it is slower. Vuescan is much more useful than the included software. Running well on Mac OS13 with an M1.

A Very Capable Scanner for 35mm
A very capable and fast scanner for 35mm film. The cyber view software from Pacific Image is not my first choice for scanning. I am using VueScan Professional with mine and the batch scanning and frame alignment have been spot on so far. If you scan frame by frame, you can tweak the negative alignment with the forward and reverse buttons on top of the scanner, which you can see through to your negative (another plus with this scanner). The autofocus and scanning dpi of 5000 makes for some seriously sharp and detailed images right out of the scanner. Very happy with my purchase so far, just use Vuescan! I hope they add compatibility with Silverfast in the near future as well.

Low quality
I really wanted to like this so I could scan full rolls unattended. As expected, it's no where close to 10K DPI. This was not an issue and seems to be a game they all play. The real issue is the film transport. The control buttons are flaky at best. When scanning a full roll, frames will start to skew. It did better with B&W film than color, but in the end frames are lost.I really wish this scanner would have worked. When scanning many frames, having to manually move frame to frame is too time consuming.
