A smoky dashi flavor, almost "meaty". Not thick but not too watery, either
I was surprised at how meaty, almost bacon-y, this smelled when I opened the bag. It has a very dashi forward aroma and foretaste. Dashi is fish based but has a umami-rich baconness from the shrimp flakes being smoked. This has no fish or meat ingredients but it is rich in umami without being overtly msg heavy. One bag seasons a very large skillet-full of food imo but I tend to go light on sauces. I found 2/3 of a bag almost too much for one large batch of tofu stir fry but I also added other seasonings to boost and round out the flavor, like extra ginger, garlic, soy sauce, salt, and so on, so I was able to use less of this sauce as a result. This stuff appears a bit more watery initially, when you're pouring it from the bag. I was afraid it would turn my stir fry to soup. Fortunately, the high sugar content reduces down to a caramel glaze if you continue to stir fry this for a while so it doesn't lead to soup. The ingredients go heavy on the sugar like most teriyaki and Asian inspired sauces and also include modified corn starch as a thickener, but other than that, the ingredients are more clean and simple than many grocery store sauces. The ingredients aren't high quality enough to merit a higher pricetag for this bag which is why I removed one star. This is still basic sugary teriyaki sauce which is very cheap to produce so you're not getting much for your money considering this is a single use bag designed for one pot of food and it isn't made with very gourmet ingredients. This has a little more depth and flavor than cheap teriyaki sauce but still not worth a lot of extra money. I like to use fresh ingredients and cook from scratch so maybe I'm a bit biased when it comes to prepackaged sauces and I'm a serial label reader so overall, this product didn't impress me with its ingredients but the flavor is good if that's all you care about.

Not your traditional Teriyaki Sauce. Smoky. Slight coffee flavor. (no coffee in ingredients.)
This is a vegetarian smoky teriyaki sauce. It is enough sauce for 2 pounds of chicken. I tried it out on oven roasted veggies. There is no high fructose corn syrup. No MSGs. These are both pluses for me.To make:I tossed some onion, mushrooms, cabbage, carrots and banana peppers with cornstarch and a little salt and pepper. I roasted them in the oven at 450 for about 20 minutes. I tossed them with this sauce afterwards. To taste:To taste by itself- it is smoky! I love the smoky flavor. I tasted it over and over again. As tasty as it is, I don't quite describe it as a teriyaki flavor.Tossed with vegetables- again it was tasty. It was smoky. It doesn't remind me at all of a teriyaki sauce. Instead, it tastes like a smoky almost coffee like flavor. It is good. Just not the traditional Teriyaki flavor.4 stars:This is a solid 4 stars. It is a very tasty sauce. I appreciate the ingredient list a lot. This is all stuff I can find in my own kitchen. It isn't as much a traditional Teriyaki sauce. Even when I take the smoky flavor out, I can't say it tastes like a traditional Teriyaki sauce.

Lightly smoky but way to sweet for me
There were all kinds of flavors coming out on this little pouch of teriyaki sauce, first of all the slight fishy smell that was almost off-putting but I tried it anyway. Second the smoky smell and then the bbq smell that came out as well. Bit I think what stood out the most was the sweet sweet taste that was way to sweet for me, even after diluting it down with some water it was still too sweet. I am diabetic and have to watch my sugar intake and to eat 15 grams of sugar per 2 tablespoons was way to much for my blood sugar to skyrocket. The cost of this one pouch is what got me, you get a 7.05 ounce package of sauce at a huge price tag of $8.99 that would definitely keep me from buying this teriyaki sauce again.
