GEM 11" Electric Orbital Sander

Well worth the cost if you need to sand and finish large flaat wood surfaces. On this live edge table project, I started with 60 grit disks with wood right off a sawmill (yes I dried and joined it first). Went up to 300 grit with amazing speed and with far more accuracy than a 6" random orbit sander. AND no little swirley marks (usually caused by ober heating sandpaper). After 20 coats of poly, I used a light paste wax, and using the same machine, I buffed out the surface using white 3M buffing pads to give a satin finish.Very well balanced...BUT you need to control it when using rough grit sandpaper. I think this would work great on stone. You can buy disks up to 3k grit.

I expected some vibration in the machine and spent a lot of time setting it up but for the price I expected a lot better. It's quite uncomfortable to use and I have to clamp down a 1/2 sheet of plywood to work on it because the machine weighs so much that it spins the plywood around.

I had buyers remorse as soon as I hot the payment button. That is until the machine arrived and I used it for the first time. What a dream to use. You can literally pour a finish on a table and buff and polish all with one hand. This has quickly become one of my favorite, if not my favorite tools. Absolutely love this. Didn’t know if I would need it and i’ve only used it once so far, but this will be my go to for finishing all of my table tops.

That is walnut. Just sanding down to a buffing pad. No oil. No stain. Nothing other than this fabulous beast of a sander. Just be prepared because you won't find anything for this at your local big box store.
