My grandchildren age 5 and 2 just love this film. I had recorded it from the tv at Christmas and purchased the DVD as soon as it was available. Julia Donaldson's books are a firm favourite for both of them and this dvd is wonderful. It sticks to the original story and brings it to life on screen. My 2 year old grandson loves the Gruffalo and we now have both The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child on dvd. I would highly recommend this DVD to have in your collection. Both my grandchildren love it and I really enjoy watching it with them as well.I did wonder once the DVD was in the house if they would want to view that rather than read the book. But I've found that that although they love to watch the film the book is still being read and enjoyed as much as ever. My 2 favourite Julia Donaldson books in their collection are Stick Man and also The Smartest Giant in Town. I hope there will eventually be animated versions of them !

Good but short

Great video for my granddaughter.

I bought this DVD for my little boy,as he already has the gruffalo on DVD and I thought he would love this!The DVD arrived quickly and my little boy was delighted with his little gift,to which he insisted on watching straight away.He loved it from the very beginning to the very end and asked for it on again straight after it had finished much to my dismay!it is a great DVD and I would recommend it to any parent who wishes to have a quiet half an hour,this will not disappoint.My little three year old boy has all the books and now the DVDs to accompany them,well worth the money for any active little mind!

Just what we wanted

Voice-over work: superb. You couldn't really expect less, with the talented cast involved, really...Love the Gruffalo's Child herself, and the Gruffalo Dad..Animation: brilliant.. I am not an expert here, but I find the 3D rendering of Scheffler's drawings to be top-notch.And, of course, the story itself: a classic. Julia Donalson's stories are usually excellent, and this is one of my child's favourites - and that is enough for me..This makes a lovely present for any young child, whether they have been introduced to the story via the books, or not.Highly recommended.

This video is enchanting! I'm no child but I watch it over and over and for me, it's even better than The Gruffalo.The child (its a girl, by the way) is irresistible, having the inate curiousity and innocence common to most children, human , animal (or Gruffalo), as she braves the deep, dark wood. The animations and story remain true to the book, is beautifully narrated and the child's voice, a mixture of curiosity and fear, is just perfect. Every child (and adult) should have one!
