A little pricy but in stock
A absolute must for serious sharpening. It's a little stone used to dress the surface of your Japanese water stones, about the size of a pencil rubber. Rub it in circles on the stones and it cleans the surface but more importantly builds a slurry of polishing compound, this 8000 grit compound will polish your edge as it sharpens.Using this gives your fine stone's more feedback making it easier to maintain the proper alignment. Overall it speeds up the process and you end up with a mirror polished bevel, which will both cut better and stay sharp longer. Only use on stone's of 1000 grit and above. It's OK to use this 8000 stone on higher grit sizes, I use it on my 1200 grit polishing stone. It's only worth using on real Japanese wet stones, always check that the stone's you buy are made in Japan the Chinese one's are complete rubbish, don't be fooled by reviews by novice sharpeners with no experience.

Works like a charm.
Instantly makes a very workable slurry. A big help. It's so good it feels as if someone has let me into a secret.

NOT for direct contact with your knife but for making a slurry on your honing stone.
This stone is designed to rub against a larger stone to create a slurry which aids in the sharpening process. It is NOT designed for sharpening a knife by direct contact. Having said that it's perfectly possible to use this as an emergency field stone to put an edge on any length or degree of blade provided you're careful and are very steady. It's a very nice fine little stone.
