La Cafetiere Thermique
I have 3 coffee makers each of a different design. I was attracted to the La Cafetiere Thermique because it combines the best features of a plunger-type coffee maker and a Thermos flask. Being made wholly of metal there are no glass components to break. Furthermore, the container vessel itself and its cap are double-skinned like a Thermos flask, which reduces heat loss thereby keeping the coffee hotter for longer. The specification states that the double-skin design retains heat 3X longer than conventional coffee makers. I have not put this claim to the test but I believe it to be true. The coffee maker is made wholly of metal, is sturdy, well made and not as heavy as it looks. It has a highly polished outer surface and brushed matt finish on the inside. The plunger and the diaphragm appear to be made of stainless steel. The mesh of the diaphragm is very fine, much finer than the diaphragm in my glass cafetiere. The metal diaphragm has proven to be a very effective barrier against coffee dregs.Making coffee follows the same procedure as for a conventional plunger-type cafetiere: add spoonfuls of coffee to the empty vessel, add hot water to within 1" of the spout and replace the cap with the plunger up, leave for 4 - 5 minutes before slowly depressing the plunger. Pour out the coffee, as required. This coffee maker is an '8 cupper' but as I prefer weaker coffee and larger cups I get between 3 - 4 cups from one filling. The La Cafetiere Thermique is very attractive and would grace any table. I do not know if the outer surface would tarnish with time but I imagine it would be easy to keep it clean and bright. Highly recommended.

La Cafetiere Thermique 3 cup
A very nicely made cafetiere that I don't feel embarrassed about putting on the table in front of guests. At a casual glance it could almost be mistaken for one made of solid silver. On the positive side, it makes good coffee and keeps the contents hot by virtue of its insulated inner vessel. I've not noticed too many 'bits' as commented on by other reviewers but there are often fine 'grounds' present in the bottom of the cup and this can be a disincentive to draining the cup of its contents! I'm not sure if this is a feature of the cafetiere though or of the finely-ground nature of the coffee I've been using. As commented on elsewhere, the capacity of the cafetiere is not that large and I find that it can realistically only hold two, coffee-cups full. One would struggle to get a single mug's worth out of it. The capacity is deceptive in that the inner, liquid-holding, container is somewhat smaller than the cafetiere's outside dimensions.

Keeps coffee hot
Being double lined the coffee stays hot longer, ideal for 1 person as makes 2 big mugs fullEasy to clean, looks beautiful and no chance of smashing it (always used to happen with glass ones with me)No ground coffee escapes into the mug when pouring

Hot coffee
Liked the style. It pours well and keeps the coffee hot for a good length of time. The plunger works swiftly and easily.

Just very good!
Have been giving this heavy use for a few weeks now.Really good looking coffee pot; glad I splashed out and bought this one rather than the cheaper stainless steel insulated one I was also considering. Nicely made - unlike some cheap cafetieres which can feel flimsy or wobbly when you push the plunger down.Keeps the coffee nice and hot (particularly if you warm the pot with a splash of water first), pours well and keeps the coffee grounds out of your cup (again, unlike some of the cheaper cafetieres I have used in the past...). What more can you ask of a coffee pot? (Except maybe for it to bring you a biscuit..!)Overall, really glad I bought this.

Not as I remember them!
Despite the name, this pot certainly wasn't born in France- so do not be fooled by it! From a distance I could see a vague resemblance but that is all. Yes it has a comforting chunkiness - more Camarguais than Montmarte. End of!To get to the detail: the lid doesn't fit properly, it certainly feels solid, like a French Second-row forward, and it feels "chunky". It keeps coffee earm for a good couple of hours, and holds enough for two large mugs to be filled. The only real problem is with the filter: unlike my previous one (which was as French as they come), this filter cannot be unscrewed for cleaning, and yhe only way to get it passably clean, but wouldn't fool a Frdnchman, is to hold it under z fairly hihh-pressure cold water tap and lifting the spring thingy unfer the filter sieve, with thumbtips and hope the force of the water jet blasts at least somr of the trappefd grains from between the rims of the two retaining plates of the filter. Not a perfect job, but better than nothing- just.
