Useful Tool with Important Limitations
As a former moving and handling instructor and Health Care Assistant, I felt confident using the NRS Healthcare Transfer Turntable L66382. Initially, it proved helpful for my mother's transfers, but its usefulness diminished as her condition worsened. The turntable is effective for individuals who can support their own weight, but it's not suitable for those with limited mobility or strength. Professional training is crucial for safe operation. While it facilitates easier transfers and has a sturdy construction, home care workers may be unfamiliar with the device, which could lead to reluctance in using it.Overall, this is a valuable tool in certain situations, but awareness of its limitations is key. Proper assessment of the user's condition and abilities is essential before implementation.Safety first! Professional training is essential before using patient transfer equipment.

Flimsy
So I bought this for the intention of turning my lazy boy chair into a rotating one. That's not it's intended purpose I know but it works great for that however, it doesn't work well for supporting a person. The lazy boy has a flat base which distributes the weight so it's fine but when I first opened this, being the mature 36 year old I am, I tried it out standing and spinning on it like one rotation. I'm 6ft and weigh 12st 7 lbs but this is mega flimsy and it cracked despite saying it takes 18 stones. It's like thin layers of plastic with ball bearings you can feel when rotating. I have no intention of returning it as like I said, for the chair it's perfect but I would not have kept this if the intention is to stand on it as your weight is concentrated on your feet obviously but that seems to bend the plastic bit your standing on

Transfer help for disabled
I bought this turnable disk to help with the transfer from wheelchair to the bed of my disabled husband.I use it in conjunction with a padded transfer belt behind his back to lift him. I have to say that the use of these two devices help a lot to reduce the stress on my husband's joints and on my back. I also use it sometimes for transfers from wheelchair to the car. The disk is certainly useful, but having said that, if the person you are transferring is very heavy and incapable of any movement, like in my case, you have to be aware that it is also risky. I am always afraid of losing control because first I have to do a difficult lift and then at the same time be able to use my foot at the centre of the disk to turn my husband. Sometimes it goes very smoothly, other times he just about lands on the bed. In conclusion: very useful, but be extremely cautious in its use!

simple to use ,good value
this little heavy duty plastic turntable is ideal for transfering a disabled person from say a wheelchair to a bed etc they just need to stand on it and the user then gently twists the person either right or left and the turntable moves in that direction for you to line them up where they need to go, i have been using this for a few months and its a godsend

Use with assistance
If you are buying this aid for an elderly or disabled person who has restricted movement, don't bother. Please note , do not let the elderly or disabled use this without assistance from another strong person. Can quite easily result in a fall if not careful, the truntable has no friction so spins quite freely, even attempting to stand on it, it will turn causing imbalance. When helping my elderly father on this to transfer him, I've had to keep one foot on the turntable to prevent it from spinning and at the same time help him stand up. Do not take your foot off the turntable! As this may cause an imbalance for the person. I've had to gradually drag my.foot around turning the table while holding him until he's in the right position and can be seated.I've actually given up on this after one days use, for my dad I believe it's too dangerous and theres a risk of a fall. Considering that it's been made for people with limited mobility, not much thought has gone into the safety aspect of it. What would have been useful is a tightening screw to increase the resistance as it turns so it's slower. All is not lost, can also be used as an exercise tool for your abdominal muscles (core strength) by doing standing twists (while listening to chubby checker lol)**UPDATE**Thought I'd provide an update. Without a suitable, affordable alternative out there, I've comeback to using this in helping my dad transfer. I've changed my opinion on this, hence I've changed it from 1 star to 3 star. I won't give it a 4 or 5 star as I believe it's still too dangerous to be used without assistance. Other than that, it has been a Godsend in helping my dad transfer, would have been extremely difficult without.

Turntables - general observations
Although we ordered this particular turntable, the supplier actually sent us a different model... Having now purchased several different turntables they ALL suffer from the same short-comings: firstly, they all pivot about a single central plastic spindle, and given the loads they have to bear it is only a matter of time before the spindle fails - four months in the most recent case. Secondly, they are made of hard plastic, and when placed on a hard surface, eg driveway, there is a significant risk that the turntable will slip from under you. Solution? glue something non-slip to the under- surface. The idea behind these turntables is fine, it's the robustness, and safety that is questionable. Pay as little as possible, and be prepared to replace it regularly!
