Crossword one tells you how the clues are solved, it’s great to understand better how the answers relate to the clues. The rest of the crosswords are by a range of compilers with a range of difficulties. Very impressed with this book. Helped us to try and improve our crossword solving abilities.

Bought as a gift for someone who enjoys these types of puzzles and it was received well and is often in use. Quick puzzles are not overwhelming and ensure the user can complete them.

We completed one book (number 3) in this series, at first with a great deal of difficulty! However we got progressively better at cryptic crosswords, helped by the tips at the front of the book. We often couldn't complete one crossword but now we usually do one, sometimes two, every evening. This is a great series for anyone new to, or experienced with cryptic crosswords

Easier than the general cryptic crossword book so can get through a whole one without too much difficulty!

Started doing puzzles from book 1 and am (very slightly) addicted. Takes me a while to do the crosswords (and often fail to complete a puzzle) but good fun. Shame there is only one book a year - I could devour at least another one. Perhaps I should go back and start at the beginning again ... I probably wont remember the answers.

Seems that opinions depend on the person's ability, but for a book claiming to be "quick" and for "people new to cryptic crossword" I'd say this is misleading. I'm not new to them, and would like to think I'm reasonably intelligent, but I found them literally impossible.It does have a good introduction section, explaining how cryptic clues "work", using a full example crossword, showing how they got the answers, and what to look out for in the clues. All very good, now let's get on with it.Once you launch into the first puzzle for real, it seems to get harder: the clues are shorter, leaving you with little to help glean an answer. I worked through every clue on the first puzzle and could not get ONE answer.Dejected, I gave up and sent it back.So, probably great if you are experienced in cryptics and want smaller puzzles, but not for beginners
