Q: Can this be used as a bench scraper for cakes??

I would say no, I use mine for cutting bread dough. As it has a nice sharpe end and I think the grip would be getting in the way as cake bench scrapper.

Q: I read the blade is sharp, as sharp as a "normal" kitchen knife?

Not at all. I was puzzled by the references to it as something to chop with. It's sharp, as a thin piece of metal always is, but I wouldn't dream of using it to chop anything. I'm very pleased with it but only use it for scraping down and, mostly, gathering up things I've chopped to transfer to a saucepan. For that it's great!
