Q: These are not waterproof, just water repellant? How good is the water repellant?

Pretty good to be fair. I've had them submerged in water a few times. Always had dry feet wearing these. Don't stand on any nails though had one come through the other day. I assumed they had a plate as being timberland. Will probably stick to timberland rig master pros next time. Worth checking out
