In an age where something called the "bucket cap' or the ubiquitous baseball cap is considered to be the epitome of sartorial elegance for men, the fact that a hat like this one is available is a blessing. Factor in the very reasonable cost and unexpectedly high degree of craftsmanship, and you have a winner.This hat arrived before the promised date and was securely packaged. The fit was as advertised and I immediately appreciated the substance of this hat. It's sturdy enough to hold it's shape, the construction promises to provide a degree of durability and longevity, and it's still 'breaths'.I've worn the hat a couple of days now and I was thrilled to see the reaction. I have worked to bring the bow tie back and suspenders. I am a teacher and I believe that dressing well and elegantly is a life lesson that a teacher can impart without having to write a lesson plan or some such. I certainly believe that students do react to me differently than they do a casually dressed teacher - if I am taking the trouble to dress well to come and teach them, I must feel that this is important. And I do.This hat is 'icing on the cake' if you will. I enjoy wearing it, it complements my spring and summer attire, and I am able to show my young men that there are alternatives to the 'bucket' hat.I look forward to spending a lot of time with this truly fine hat. Well worth the price.

I got this for a dress up night and wasn’t expecting that much. I was surprised at how well made it is, soft but holds its flat shape. Fits well and looks great.

I’m a General Manager of a The Hub Spark Bar/Lounge in Fort Lauderdale. We threw a Carnival Theme Party. I wanted to go for an PD school carnival vendor look. Even though it was a 1 time event, I still like to wear quality stuff. This hat EXCEEDED my expectations! Exactly what I wanted. A nice, clean and stiff brim hat. I’ve seen others and the brim look cheap and flimsy. This was feels and looks so official. And even better when I found exact matching suspenders! Tooooo many compliments on my entire fit!! Great quality and can’t wait to wear this again with a non theme outfit. I love it!! 🔥❤️👊🏽

It was as expected, mostly. The color is fine, a sort of yellow straw color. I wasn't expecting bleached white. The grosgrain band is fine, but the bow part is tilted upward at each end, rather than even with the rest of the band. I guess this is the style for a boater. I wasn't around when they were popular, so don't really know. Just takes some getting used to. I gave 4 stars because of the sizing. I would have been much more confident in ordering had there been actual sizes, even European. I don't like taking a chance on Small, Medium, Large, etc. In a perfect world, I'm a rare 6 7/8. But I when I have a choice, I order a 7 or 56. This way, if the size is perfect, I have a little adjustment room. I ordered this one in Medium, and it's almost loose. It's a very stiff hat, so I'll have to make it fit just a tad tighter. I'm sure I can do it. As you're looking down at the crown, it looks a bit oval, but doesn't feel like it, doesn't give at all. I've worn hats my whole, long life. All in all, it is well made, looks professional (not costume), and it arrived in good shape, literally. The thin cardboard box, by a miracle, did not get crushed. I don't think the packing peanuts would have helped had it landed underneath a heavier package. It should have been shielded. Kudos for the USPS getting it here unscathed. UPDATE: Several days later. Well, the stiffness has given way and the crown has conformed more to the shape of my head, but I still need the thin layer of foam under the band which I installed the first day for a snug fit. My greatest concern now is getting sweat on the cloth band. That's hard to clean. I'm leaving the 4 stars. Really, a fine hat should be sized properly.

Pleasantly surprised with the nice quality. This is not a token novelty or cheap costume item. Hat fits just slightly larger than expected. I would say if you're in between sizes like I was, it's probably safe to lean towards the smaller size. I'm usually a baseball hat-fitted size 7 & had to choose between 6 7/8 (S) & 7 1/8 (M). Given the nature of this item I went with the smaller size & chose correctly. I believe if there ever is a big gust of wind while I'm wearing this it will surely blow clean off my head, so there's plenty of wiggle room to it. Overall, impressed!

Several years ago I had a boater but I am sad to say I inadvertently left it at an airport. More recently I bought a Scala boater from Amazon. I had been pricing them at hat stores such as the excellent one in San Francisco. When I found Amazon had one at a good price, I got it. Every time I wore that hat, I received compliments -- at least one and sometimes two or three or more. But I had to give it away in May to a charming woman who liked it a lot. She had been one of the Rockettes at the Radio City Music Hall some 50 years before. Now she was stricken with Alsheimers.It is better to give than to receive. My three daughters bought me a Del Monico boater for Fathers Day to replace it because they knew I liked it quite a lot. It is at least as good and likely better than the Scala boater. My first boater had been a Del Monico. The Scala is Chinese in origin -- the Del Monico is Italian in origin. Amazon sells both. The Del Monico is a little more expensive. The compliments keep coming. If the Del Monico is too pricey for you, get the Scala. It is slightly more flexible. Measure your head carefully before you order as even the Scala is not that forgiving on size. It will last forever.
