The Ottoman Empire: The History of the Turkish Empire that Lasted Over 600 Years

Okay book for what it is
This book is okay for what it is which is a book with an impossible task: summarize 600 years of the Ottoman Empire in a small book with 90 pages. It does a good job in many respects. But there are several discrepancies and omissions which prevent it from really hitting the mark. For example, the Armenian genocide is not even mentioned in the book. Another example is the role of the Ataturk (Mustafa Kemmel) in the formation of modern Turkey. Though his name is mentioned an briefly discussed, it does not do any justice at all to his true impact. But overall I did enjoy reading it and learned some cool stuff (like the fate of the true Vlad Dracula). If you want a quick "cliff notes" version of the Ottoman Empire then this book is not bad and worth it.

Informative Historical Read
I love reading about history and I found this book to be an enlightening read on the Ottoman Empire which expanded my knowledge base of this facet of history. This resource reviews the six hundred year history of this empire from its rise to its final days. It is an informative read which is wonderful for the individual history fanatic.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Very interesting and concise history of the Ottoman Empire.
Having known nothing at all about Turkish history, I recently watched Resurrection of Ertugrul and also a film about Mehmet 11, both on Netflix. Both films bought Turkish history alive for me, so I was keen to find out more. This excellent book is easy to read and very clearly describes the founding of the Ottoman Empire by Erugrul’s son, Osman in the 12 and 13th centuries. It goes on to fill all the gaps between Osman and a very interesting Sultan, Mehmet 11, who conquered Constantinople. He also had to face up to the ogre, Vlad Dracula. The Ottomans continued their expansion of the Islamic empire over vast areas of Europe, Arabia, Africa and Asia until its decline in the 19th and 20th century. The book describes some of the reasons for the stability and success of the Ottoman system of government under its Sultans, and also the reasons for its decline. It also shows the terrible cruelty and fear by which people everywhere were ruled during those times.
