Proof that APC are overcharging for their cables!
I recently picked up an APC UPS from a well known auction website which didn't come with the UPS monitor cable. As APC have made the rather odd decision not to use a stock USB cable, instead opting for these silly things with RJ45 plugs on one end (and charging a fortune for them in the process) I took a chance on this one instead, being as it was around half the price.I've got an official APC cable with another one of their UPS devices and, on inspection, there's nothing to choose between them aside from the fact that this one is actually a little bit longer. And it works just fine, too.If you have an APC UPS and want to get a monitor cable, get this one and keep the rest of the money in your pocket.

Just the job!
I bought this to interface my SmartUPS 3000 to my Pfsense firewall and it works perfectly. And a lot cheaper than the APC cable. Personally I really rater Star Tech - Used them for a number of cbles and my main 19" rack. Dependable good quality.APS seem to have made a bit of a reputation for themselves in using non-standard pin-outs and connectors. Even the DB-9 marked "Serial" doesn't use a standard RS-232 DB-9 pin out - it uses pins 1 and 2 for TX and RX compared to 2 and 3 s standard. Plug a standard RS-232 cable in and it shuts down, so beware that one too.

Links PC to UPS
Close to Plug n Play. needed to get an HP server to control old APC UPS (CS500). Plugged in, installed power chute (win7+ copy not current) and all recognised. A happy bunny as the recent storms have played havoc with our power supply. Seems a quality product, a bit pricey but not compared to APC original!!

The cable works very well and is of sufficient length to allow for various locations and arrangements of the ups a pc

Beep beep beep beep... Now what?
I bought this because I couldn't find what I did with my original cable and my UPS was giving me grief (I eventually changed the battery). Using gapcmon and apcupsd on Linux, this works fine.

Cable just works and fast delivery.
The RJ45 to USB A cable arrived quickly as stated when ordered. The cable was required to connect the APC ups device to my QNAP nas. That was not supplied in the box with APC ups. I have ordered cable free of charge from APC, but I am still waiting for this to arrive.

Works as you'd expect. Expensive for what it is ...
Works as you'd expect. Expensive for what it is but you can blame apc for not using a standard cable.A lot easier than bodging one myself.

Would not work for toffee!
No idea how these people are getting this to work with APC UPS as my APC 1500I SmartUps isn’t having any of it, in the end had to go USB to USB to the server then tell PFsense you are the slave the server is the master and get it to give it via network. This cable doesn’t work for Toffee!
