Still very relevant today.
I am still using these undergravel filters as they work well in my application. I keep six 30 year old Clown Loaches with no plants because they eat them.I use the filters at either end of a six foot aquarium. Eventually the plastic degrades and they need replacing.I use Aquaclear 50 powerheads to provide the flow. I gravel vacuum half the tank each week, not too thoroughly though because the beneficial bacteria live in there.The filters never get blocked and I like the fact all my filtration is inside the tank. I don't want the water pumped outside my tank in case this goes wrong.My ammonia is always close to zero and my nitrate stays below 5ppm so this is why I say these work.

Undergravel filter plate that you can use in planted aquarium's
I used undergravel filters decades ago when I first came into the hobby, I’m using this one for my planted tank I’ve setup, and it’s not restricting the plants or there growth in any way.

Perfect size for my small tropical tank once fitted and covered with about 3 in of Dorset pea gravel it works very well keeping water crystal clear since fitting it over a year ago well recommended.
