Beemster Classic Aged Gouda - Pound Cut (1 pound) 18 Month

Out of all the Gouda (pronounced "How-da"), my preference is the aged Gouda cheese (Kaas), the firmer, the better. The firmness comes from any cheese that is aged.Sometimes people become concerned if they see a white flaky substance that forms on the outside of the aged cheese, that is nothing to worry about; if you leave the cheese out at room temperature the whiteness will go away, it is not a type of mold. Mold usually grows on soft types of cheese that has not aged. That is one reason why I prefer aged cheese to soft cheese, especially tasting excellent cheese in my travels throughout Europe. I now find it difficult to find good USA cheese unless it is an aged Cheddar. Although, the State of Wisconsin, produces good aged cheeses. But I conclude that Gouda Kaas is my favorite cheese, as well as the Swiss and German aged cheeses.

This cheese is so good. I was lucky enough to stumble across it at a winery. I didn't think to ask what it was at the time, but it made such an impression on me that I reached out to the winery's head chef. After a quick email, I was directed to this Beemster 18 Month Aged Gouda. I was a little concerned, because the image on Amazon appears a bit less orange than the cheese we were served, but as soon as it arrived, I knew that we'd gotten the right stuff. After an hour or two in the fridge, this stuff slices into nice chunks and can be crumbled up further if you like. The taste is incredible. Absolutely love it. It's a shame that it's as pricey as it is, but you certainly get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

Not as good as some other aged gouda's that I've purchased, especially those I got while in Amsterdam, but better than most things you'll find in your local store. SOME crystals from the aging, but not as many as I expected for an aged gouda. My main complaint is that the "blocks" are very thin. My 1lb arrived in three thin blocks, not one. Also, I had ordered two lbs, but the seller correct this problem by sending my 2nd lb once I contacted them.

The product arrived one-and-a-half days after it was shipped via USPS. The product was still cool although I don't think it would have been if delayed another day. It came as three shrink wrapped wedges, At first, I was disappointed but there is plus to three separately wrapped wedges. The taste is very good. Unlike some aged cheeses, it has a consistent texture all the way to the rind.Even with shipping, the price was on a par with the store on the rare occasion that they have Beemster in stock.

The idea it great. The packaging maybe not so good. I ordered thinking I was going to get an aged gouda like in europe or south america where I have had it many times. The flavor was intense, not from the aging, but more like from over aging and the fact that when I opened it, it was warm and had clearly been out of refrigeration for a considerable amount of time. The cheese itself had an interesting flavor, a bit on the strong side, too much, and it has crystaline bits that crunched when you chewed. I love the idea of the aged gouda, but in this case I think it was past it's prime. and shipped innapropriately too to boot.

I have had many different aged goudas including some from beemster, so when I saw this on amazon I didn’t think to read the reviews.I would echo what others have said, beemster is wonderful cheese but this seller Dao Foods does not understand that putting two ice packs into a thermal bag will not keep anything cool for 5 days. The cheese arrived warm and discolored, I have seen and had this ageS cheese many times so I feel like I know what it should look like. Also on the pack it says “keep refrigerated”. I can’t send back because we are on lock down and going to the post office is clearly not essential. DO NOT BUY FROM DAOIt also came in three small 5-6 oz wedges, not the pound cut as advertised.

Cheese arrived with an ice pack, so it was nice and fresh. The protein crystals in the aged Gouda make this cheese incredible. Fantastic experience cutting into this cheese and munching on a few cubes. My only complaint is the tough find that I usually throw away so I don't get the entire amount, but with that said the cheese is the best.

Taste too strong and bitter! I should have known better, however.
