3 versions for the price of 1
Emerson Lake and Palmer at their most exciting. In the early 1970's few other bands could match the drive, musicianship and unique style of this great band. Pictures at an Exhibition sounds better than ever on this remastered version of a concert recorded at Newcastle City Hall in 1971, the bonus with this album is get 2 more version of Pictures a short medley of tracks recorded at a festival in Puerto Rico from 1972 and a version from the 1970 concert at London Lyceum which was released on film.Keith Emerson regularly took classical pieces and rocked them up with the Nice , with ELP he went even further and in Pictures we have Modest Mussorgsky's piece turned into classic rock .ELP take themes from the original suite of music and original songs of which Greg Lake's ballad; The Sage and Keith Emerson's Blues Variations are true highlights.A lot of people thought how pretentious a rock band trying to play the classics but listen to this album and just enjoy the music, although now over 45 years old it still fresh and relevant. Hopefully, ELP will one day get the recognition they deserve as certainly their music has stood the test of time as its still getting remastered and re released, which I feel is unlikely to happen to many of the bands of today and of the era's that came after them.

Vinyl weight debate
i paid £1.49 for this originally when it came out but it was purged from collection in the late seventies. That was an error cos those analogue hammond & moog sounds are just sonic magic.anyway what Greg Lake had to say about vinyl weight got me thinking.maybe he has a point are 180 gram records being too heavy/ponderous sounding ?Unforunately Mr Lake is no longer with us to further the debate.ps the guy he quotes makes fantastic but absurdly pricey decks but so much of thesound /hifi discussion is down to personal preferences, isnt it ?

Classic rock music.
I had this on cassette in the 1970s when I was in the Merchant Navy. Played this tape endlessly. And other ELP tapes. This double cd version is really excellent. The musicians are all masters of the instruments they Play. The versions of Nutrocker are fantastic. I bought this cd but I was looking for a different ELP album but so glad I found this cd.

Extras make it
Been a fan of ELP for years, since around 75. I like this remaster, especially the additional live concerts included. Before it was just the Newcastle gig ( excellent ). So for the bonus material well worth the buck.
