Q: I have measured from slot to slot and it is 18 and a half inches... should I buy the 18 or the 19 inch?

Mine was not used in a 'slot to slot' situation; it was 'pin to slot'. If your slots are at right-angles to the lie of the belt, I'd advise the longer one, because of the lengthening effect of the bend. I initially got the wrong length for my application and the suppliers were quite happy to exchange for the right one.

Q: My 70s Erc.chairs have dowels fitting into slits of seat.Will clips on straps fit through slits and dowels still used to secure webbing

I had a 70s fireside chair and they fitted perfectly, I think they should fit yours, you can always return them.
