DO NOT BUY THIS GARBAGE!!!!
A complete piece of garbage. NOT STURDY, bolts do not line up, a solid piece of wood would be better / less shaky. My boot is more effective than this product.

Heavy duty steel tamper for road repairs
We live on a 1/2 mile long private shared road that is part gravel, part asphalt that all the owners need to maintain. It's gotten pretty bad with potholes, especially after last winter. My husband told me to get him a 'tamper' to put the 'cutback' in the potholes. Okay. So I googled, saw some prices at big box hardward stores that were $60 to 80 or more, then I checked Amazon and found this! Price was great, especially because a lot of the square bases are rubber and this one is steel and heavier. It was easy to assemble but took some muscle because the screws are tight but that's okay because it will probably make them harder to come loose during use. This does not come with assembly instructions, which is fine, its not hard but note that 2 of the 6 screws are slightly longer and those ones go on the bottom to fasten the base on. The other 4 are to assemble the handle. The screws arrived in the handle holes, but not in the right handle holes so lay everything out before you start screwing it together. I will edit this review if by some chance it falls apart after a few days of use, but so far so good.

Broke instantly
Terrible product, broke on first use. This is a disgusting scam of a product that relies on you not shipping it back for a refund 1/10 is too high. I don't believe its handle is steel either, felt like aluminum but it could be the lowest grade steel on earth I guess. Get one with a wooden handle from Lowes instead.

Extremely useful!
This has been extremely useful in tamping the soil where we are putting stepping stones. It’s just big enough to be useful and small enough to be precise. It comes disassembled so you have to build it. The annoying thing is that it is put together with screws ant the good thing is that it is put together with screws. If you know, you know. The screws make it more tedious to assemble, but add the strength this type of tool will need. It has held up well so far and is a great addition to our yard tools.

Decent tamper for the price.
For the price this is a good tool. I recommend using loctite for the handle hardware if you do not plan to disassemble for storage.

Broke in under 20 minutes
AVOID, Broke within MINUTES of its intended use.I wasn't expecting heavy duty quality, but a tamping tool IS supposed to be used to flatten an area of ground by repetitive striking into the ground. In less than 20 minutes of purposely gentle use, it snapped at this point owing to very poorly made metal. This was not even a welded joint. Other parts where the tubes connected to form the handle also began to bend outward from the pressure. Also the included Allen wrench was not even the right size to build this. Had to use another tool I had lying around.Save your money and buy something sturdier next time.

Heavy-duty plate...
I like how heavy-duty duty the plate is. The metal is super thick and welded well. The handle is 3 pieces of tubing securely connected with nylon lined nuts and bolts. I am 5'8" tall, and the handle is a good height for me. This will be well used. Yes, I would definitely recommend this tamp, with a 5-Star rating for a quality product.
