How do I love thee ... let me count the ways
Living in the tropics, where quality spring steel machetes are under $20, this unit and price might seem outrageous, but ...They're not the powerful Kukri shape, and; They're not D2 steel, and; They don't have this nice cushion handle, and; They don't include a Kydex sheath with a ferro-rod and a compass, and a thermometer, and an emergency whistle, and a 550 paracord leg lash, and a diamond grit sharpener, and; They don't have a blade with a ferro-rod striking edge, and; They don't have a sharpened front spine for scraping hide, and; They don't have a differentially edge-angled blade section for making fire fuzz, and; ...Oh, hell, just buy one. You'll be thrilled too.

Almost perfect
Been looking for a good camping/ Bushcraft knife for a while. I'm a big fan of D2 steel and it holds up well! This knife chops, batons, strips, and cuts as advertised. My only complaints are, mine came to me extremely dull and and to spend a lot of time getting it to where it should be, the extras on the sheath are a little gimmicky; I like the fire starter but the compass and thermometer don't work. Lastly, having a lanyard hole would be great, especially because it comes with 550 cord. All in all it's a great, tough knife and would definitely buy from HX Outdoors again.

A hefty knife for hard work
As the box says, "Every man deserves a exceptional knife." My wife and daughters do too. I was pleased to see the knife come in a gift ready box as they are likely to ask me for it. The first thing you notice is the sheath is unusual. It's made of Kydex, a thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride. IE - acrylic PVC and yes I had to look that up. I wasn't sure what to expect but it's a very good material for this. It's firm and allows the knife to go in and out easily. The sheath attaches to your belt with a well sewn leather loop. The leather loop is held with screws. This means that years from no when a rivet would have pulled loose you'll still be in business. The rubber handle is also connected with heavy screws and feels very good. It will give you a little cushion when using the knife for it's designed purpose - cutting limbs and heavier garden materials. The blade is, of course, the star of the show. It is a thing of beauty. Made from D2 steel full tang and coated with a black titanium finish. It's sharp out of the box and could be sharpened even more. If you are going to hack and chop you may want to just keep the edge as is. The 14" knife has a sharp tip and includes a finger grip for better control. They call it a machete or Kukri and it seems well suited to either description. For knife fans they add that the blade has a hardness rating of 60 HRC. A 60 rating says it's very hard and should hold an edge well. Many Japanese knives are in this range. 60 HRC blades may tend to break if used incorrectly.I am really fond of this knife. So much so that I'd hate to use it and scratch it up. No problem, I'll get over it next time I go for a difficult hike.

A lot of heft, more of a brute force knife than a scalpel. Sheath does not match the description.
This is a hefty knife. It’s probably sharp enough for your purposes but it’s no scalpel. I can easily see you clearing brush and chopping wood with it. The handle has a good feel and their description of “SOLID FULL TANG CONSTRUCTION '' is accurate. Still, I don’t know that this kukri would receive the Gurkha Seal of Approval. When I purchased it, the description included “Our multipurpose full tang knife with sheath includes compass, thermometer, whistle, fire starter, knife sharpener and lanyard.” This is not true. It came with none of those things. Frankly, I’m OK with that. Knives that have a hollow handle do not have a full tang - making them significantly weaker and, most likely, much lower quality. Besides, they look like something out of Rambo. But if you were counting on getting that stuff, you’ll be disappointed. It appears that they’ve corrected the listing but it still makes me wonder about their integrity. That said, the sheath is heavy duty and well-made.

Quality Kukri Machete but Quite Pricey
Points:+Clearly quality materials in Kydex sheath+Blade is quality D2 steel+Kukri design helps with chopping brush+Surprisingly lightweight+Flashy design choices with sheather colors and blade contoursSummary:The HX Outdoors 14” kukri machete is something I got more for the collection and less for regular bushwacking. So far I have used it to chop down giant sunflower stalks for winter. A task it performed extremely well in. It is very lightweight, feels good in the hand, and looks quite nice indeed. The biggest concern here is simply the price point as it is a bit steep. To be fair, its clearly made with quality materials and will clearly hold up to regular use. From the Kydex sheath to the D2 steel this was made for regular outdoor use. For me it's primarily a really cool looking addition to my collection with some occasional yard maintenance use. It’s a solid machete for certain.
