America's stolen nation.
An excellent and fascinating read, and a shameful episode in America's history.

The USA's Only Colonisation - The One Scar on the Face of Uncle Sam
I chose to visit Hawaii from London for a 'significant' birthday. I had assumed that Hawaii had become part of the US by its own free will and had subsequently enjoyed its resultant prosperity. How wrong I was. The "Only Royal Palace in the US" was a term new to me and on visiting and learning about the history, I was fortunate to then find this second-hand paperback by Liliuokalani in a book shop in Hilo.As a British subject I cannot comment on other nations' desire for land and resources that has so much been part of human existence; my country made a global empire out of doing so.Liliuokalni's style of writing is just perfect Victorian English and the fact that she attended Queen Victoria's Jubilee and then modelled her Court on the British one was both interesting and a great complement. Her word-by-word statement at her trial brought me to tears and I almost could not bear to read on to the end and so read her final comments. An unknown remarkable auto-biography. The US's apology in 1993 is the extent that the US can do as I believe that if the current citizens of Hawaii if asked in a referendum, would vote to stay in the US and on that basis the ultimate tragedy for Liliuokalni is that her wait will never be fulfilled.
