Very versatile piece of kit
I had an old computer with 2 x SATA drives in it which died some time ago.I wanted to copy the photos and personal data off those drives, but had no computer to put them into as I only have a laptop now. The adapter works well. It is completely plug and play with no setup needed. Once I connected the old SATA drives to it, they were immediately recognized in my Window File Explorer. The file copy rate was good too.

Seems good…
I thought this would be a useful thing to have on standby, on the rare occasion that i need to access a raw SATA drive. Unfortunately my very basic laptop doesn’t have a USB-C port, luckily i found a USB-A to C adaptor so i was back in business. Would have been nice if one was supplied. I plugged in the power to the dock, then plugged in an age old SATA drive i had lying around from an old laptop. Plugged in the USB and turned the dock on. The drives on the disk popped up almost instantly in File Explorer and asked me to scan for threats, which i did. It scanned 20k+ files fairly speedily, and then i was able to access the drive with no apparent lag. A big chunk of files copied across quickly and easily. Four stars because it isn’t cheap considering it’s doing a simple task.

does the job
Although this gadget does the job ok, you need to be aware that there are certain drawbacks. Firstly and most important is, when I wanted to clone my 500gb M.2 SSD, I did so by cloning to a one TB SATA HDD, from another old laptop, so as you can not clone to a smaller drive, I purchased a one TB SSD, M.2, as I could do with the extra 500mb on my Laptop. The first thing that went wrong, was when I tried to clone the 500gig SSD. It says on the instructions that you should position the switch on the back from A= source, to B = target. and if there is a problem with the size of the drive the yellow lights would flash on and off. Well the blue lights flashed, but not the yellow ones. I figured out eventually, that the instructions had got the wrong colour. and there is no A or B on the gadget, only one and two, and I had in fact been trying to wipe my M.2 drive, which would have been a disaster. Secondly, I need to point out that when I cloned my original 500GB M.2 to the one TB Sata drive, and then cloned that to my new one TB M.2 SSD drive, I found that after installing it on to my laptop, I had exactly what I had on there in the first place, my OS perfectly copied, and only 500GB of space, not one TB .So I wasted my cash on a one TB drive that I can only access 500GB. The original SATA drive could be accessed as a external HD but once it was cloned , it couldn't, so wasting another 500GB of storage. All that being said, it was great to be able to clone my drive so easily, and I don't regret buying the ALXUM, I just wish I knew then what I know now.

Useful M.2 to SATA hard drive enclosure
This hard drive enclosure doesn't really enclose anything, the M.2 card connects into the top and the SATA drive connects into the front. There's a dust cap for that, but not for the M.2 port. It's all fairly lightweight but build quality is generally good, the cord is relatively short but the USB-C connection is solid. There are indicator lights on the top of the enclosure and a power switch and DC power port at the back.Performance is fine, the drive connections are stable and data transfer speeds are as I expected. I'm very happy with this drive enclosure

Does not work with SATA M.2 drives...
It reads SATA drives via the classic SATA port, and NVMe drives via the M.2 port, but not SATA M.2 drives.Even if the description says it is compatible with M+B key drives well... this is not true

Worked with both SATA and NVVMe
Worked well with SATA SSD and NVMe. It could be a little sturdier but it is small, light weight and easy to add to my tool kit.

No wasted bandwidth here
While external USB drive readers are nothing new, ones with an M2 slot are. I will admit that the vertical M.2 slot is a bit unnerving as it could be damaged easier, and I really wish it was horizontal. That being said, this product is a great performer.Out of the box, this product worked great. There were no drivers or special software required, it just worked perfectly out of the box. I tried this with a smaller NVMe drive that I had, and it was just as fast as it was when it was internal inside my computer. My SATA drive was also as slow as I remembered, and neither of them impacted the performance of the other very much.

Daher verdiente 4,5 Sterne.
