Amazing little speakers.
These are the best speakers that I've owned. Just the right about of bass and I can hear vocals so clear. The build quaity is good and they look professional. I hooked mine to a IFI zen v2 dac via (fixed) XLR to 4.4 cable. Please note that these are loud little speakers.

Extremely capable monitors. These Bossy-Boots like to be heard.
I bought these HS3's primarily for vocal work - Recording and editing audio (dramas, audiobooks, etc). They work extremely well at covering the vocal range accurately and with authority. Play back any audiobook and it is quite like having the narrator in your room. All good and bad aspects of recordings are made obvious - which is what you want in monitors. They are very neutral and true to the recording. But that is not all - If you are wanting these for monitoring music recordings, then I think the are marvellous for that also. I am extremely pleased with these monitors as an all-scenario product. They are very loud at anything past mid-way volume. And there is no degradation in the sound quality. They just keep giving. These are ideal in small space situations - Bedroom, living room, etc.If you wanted monitors for us in a fully appointed mixing studio, then you probably would not be considering these. But for domestic/semi pro or pro-portable use they are great. They are relatively small units - I wanted portability. And they are truly portable. I don't know why Yamaha doesn't produce a rugged case to transport these champions about in.Some music tracks that really let these monitor shine (IMO) are :The Last Time - The Blind Boys Of AlabamaRun On For A Long Time - The Blind Boys Of AlabamaHold Your Fire - PattoIn the Bath, Having a Magnum - AKU!Rufio - Young PilgrimsI have a more static setup of Tannoy Gold 8's and a sub-woofer which are massively bigger.I bought these HS3 monitors for pureley vocal/narration work, and relative portability.I am thrilled with the HS3's.

Great Purchase
So I have been working with the now discontinued "Alesis M1Active 520 USB" monitor speakers and was looking for an upgrade, It has long been said Yamahas were VERY good and so I searched for months about any info regarding the HS3, HS4 and HS5's when I came across a reddit that said everything I needed to hear /read.And that was (also to note this is a copy and paste of his words)"I think the hs4 is the best out of the entire lineup in terms of accurate mixing results having listened to all of them. It is closest to the sound profile of the NS-10, except it has more low end and better sounding midrange"So I bit the bullet and they came today around 4pm and set them up ASAP, I am fortunate enough to already have a Focusrite Solo and balanced TRS cables until my XLR to TRS and Focusrite 4i4out turns up.But to get to the point these are ultra clear imo, great highs, fantastic mids and lows are actually pretty good for a 4" woofer I mean it's not exactly ground shattering bass (it never would be on a 4") but it is still good enough to let you know and nothing a good set of headphones cant help you with if needed. So my take away is these are well worth the money, and also understanding the above quote I would actually recommend these above the 3 & 5" for all small to medium size home studios with or without acoustic treatment.I hope this helps you make up your mind, and quenches your thirst for info.

Absolutely love them!
I have a small office edit studio.I thought I needed HS5s. Then I checked the actual speaker dimensions, took a reality check, and bought the HS4s.I'm so happy with them. They're great.I'm used to my previous speakers giving a hum when there is no sound playing. These Yamahas are silent when they should be and really punchy when I need them to be.Really clear sound and more volume than I need.I have them on stands at head height and the sound is excellent. What more can I say.Really glad I bought them.

Very happy ⭐️
Obviously if you want more bass you can check on headphones. These are very accurate and punchy sounding studio monitors. The HS3 and HS4 have a more accessible connection on the back. The white look very nice and build quality is exceptional. They are quite heavy which is a good sign I think. 👍❤️

Excellent speakers for small home studio
Super impressed with these speakers. Had a few days now and sounding excellent connected with my Focusrite 4i4 mixer. I alternate between MacBook and PC, swapping over the USBC plug as and when needed. The speakers are driven from the mixer. Speakers are not too big, but deliver a big sound in the room. One other useful feature is the second input (mini-stereo plug) on the speakers and I use this to take a feed from an Amazon Alexa, interesting that this feature does not appear on the Yamaha HS5 and upwards.

Exceeded expectations
These sound amazing. I was worried the 4 inch would not have enough bass but there is plenty for near field monitors. Very happy with my purchase
