Very good book, good material, found very useful for my daughter as she appears in her entrance exam this September and really satisfied with the exam

I have found this series to be excellent for practising short single step questions, the tests are organised by the different categories you would expect at this level as well as plenty of mixed tests too. Each test in the 11-12 age bracket has a target time of 8 minutes, and I like that if the student takes longer it is not considered a success or failure, just whether the 8 minute target was met or not. The pages are laid out clearly with a sensible number of questions per page so that each page feels properly used and questions not crammed. There is easily enough space to write the answers. This is better than some series where cramming occurs and not enough space is left to write answers.If I do have any criticism it would be that as Algebra is introduced at this level that was missing from earlier levels that there should be more tests that exercise this new skill instead of only 3 tests focusing on Algebra.I would also say that if you're looking for tests that will practise multi-step problems or the type of challenging puzzles that you might be faced with in the Primary Maths Challenge or Intermediate Maths Challenge, this book will not be sufficient as its primary objective is rapid tests. This is a shame, because it is easy for a publisher to produce a book of rapid maths tests, but it would be nice if there was a publisher that would take on the more difficult challenge of creating a series of maths books to help students practise more complex problem solving. We need to advance students beyond just doing basic repetitive calculations.

I'm an 11+ tutor and I used a broad range of sources for my students to improve their learning and get them ready for the 11+ (Essex). I purchased this recently and whilst I think that the time frame for the tests 8 minutes, is a little hopeful - for 20 responses the structure and mix of questions is excellent. The answer section is fully explained which is useful to assist parents in supporting their children when completing tests that are not under my supervision.
