Beautiful but could be better
I’m happy with the appearance and quick heating, but there are a few negatives. First, the kettle is not insulated and is very hot to the touch. Also, because it isn’t insulated, it must stay plugged in and constantly cycles to keep the contents hot. One of the largest drawbacks is that the mouth of the kettle is not large enough for my hand to clean the inside, and it already has scale after just a few months.This is not an inexpensive kettle, and as such, should be insulated and the opening wide enough to allow for cleaning the inside.

Beautiful, best kettle ever
I purchased this kettle years ago without the kraken and as a connoisseur of tea, I can tell you that THIS is the tea kettle to purchase. When this beautiful version came out, I struggled for months, watching it from a distance. 1. I don’t need a new tea kettle because these kettles are perfectly well made. 2. I don’t need a new tea kettle. 3. I needed this beautiful tea kettle. And now, here we are.It sits in all its glory in my kitchen and I will cherish it forever and ever, amen.

Great kettle, cheap decoration
While I don't doubt that the kettle will function well, I'm disappointed by the execution of the octopus decoration. The appearance in the online photos gives the impression of it being etched into the stainless steel surface of kettle -- it is not. The octopus design is merely a plastic wrap around the body of the kettle. The plastic coating doesn't cover the spout or the the top rim, so in person those areas don't quite match the decorated portion, and you can see the edge of the plastic in places (see photo). For the additional $30 or so price increase over the undecorated kettle, I expected more.Beyond how the decoration is applied, I also expected I was buying a "stainless steel kettle," exactly like the undecorated one, but now I see that they omitted "stainless steel" from the title of the Caskata version. Because it will live on a busy countertop it will definitely need to be cleaned frequently, and I can't imagine a plastic coating will be nearly as durable as the stainless steel, but time will tell.
